Default Where should I visit in Colorado

I need to get out and explore this state some this year. Where are some good places to go? I make outings with the Jeep club, but I want to try finding some places when I have a bit more time.

Ideally, I'd be looking for some land to buy. I know that I don't want to live down here in Pueblo forever, it's just too brown. I think my ideal spot would be, 10 acres on the side of a mountain, where there aren't a lot of neighbors, but is still less than 15 minutes from some kind of town or city. I know that's a magic feat, but I have time to start looking.

So let me know if you've found a particularly beautiful slice of CO!

Hey! I remember you from the Jeep forum..... Never met you in person but remembered the name. If my memory serves me, you have a ZJ and were a site admin there right?

I too am thinking that in a few years I would like to sell and get some acreage but still be close enough to commute to work.

    Default Twin Lakes

I like the Twin Lakes area. It has the panoramic view and in the summer you can drive to Aspen. I live in Pueblo too, you are right it is dull. Closest real regular town is Buena Vista. Only thing is the winters are bitterly cold and your house would probably need to have a good wood stove to be warm economically. Check it out!

    +1 to Casa Bonita.

Also, you can find land in Golden Gate Canyon that fits your requirements.

Same person, with a ZJ, but not a site admin.

I have been to Casa Bonita when I was a kid. I read a recent review of it online and they said it had gone downhill a lot. There is more than one, right? My dad grew up in Lakewood, so we came here a lot on vacation as a kid.

I'm putting all these places on a list and looking at them with google maps.

A beautiful area is up Rifle Pass north of Rifle. 10 minutes from town and within an hour of Junction. The western slope is very differrent than the eastern front range.

Another beautiful area 10-15 minutes or so from a town is up the Rio Grande northwest of South fork.

    Just some thoughts.
One of the most beautiful places I've been is heading up Wolf Creek Pass, closer to South Fork. There is a forrest access/logginh road that goes to the south-east. Up to Fox Mountain. Man, I wish I could live there!! Winter would be brutal though. It's about 10 minutes out of South Fork.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Western Slope on I-70 between Silverthorne and Grand Junction just has such a massive variation in terrain and vegetation. It is a must see.
