Default Marine lauded for heroic act

    http://chronicle.augusta.com/news/me...ded-heroic-act

A Marine stabbed while collecting Toys for Tots said he thought of all the people inside Best Buy on crowded Black Friday when he tried to intercept a fleeing shoplifter.

After we got him to the ground, and we got the knife away from him, I felt a pinch on my back," said Cpl. Phillip Duggan.

Only then did Duggan, a 2004 graduate of Cross Creek High School, realize he'd suffered a knife wound. His reaction?

"I can't believe he messed up my uniform," Duggan said. ....

Unfortunately trying to stop a shoplifter is a good way to get sued. Shitty he was stabbed.

Yeah, itsn't it crazy that doing the right thing and trying to prevent someone from getting away with breaking the law can result in losing everything you've got instead of getting a commendation?

This young man and his fellow Marineswho stepped in to stop this shoplifter truly demonstrate the values that this nation seems to have lost through the years.

    Default Knife Proof vest

I want to buy the Marine a knife proof vest...or be on the jury of the attacker. I hope the shoplifter is convicted. Isn't stabbing a US Marine a federal crime?

I don't know if it is or not, but during a time of war, making an unprovoked attack against a servicemember should be a federal crime.
(And in my opinion, someone trying to stop you from getting away with breaking the law does not constitute a provoked attack.)

I wouldn't provoke a Marine. That is a good way to get FUBAR'd.

And that is an underlying problem of society... people NOT willing to do the "right" thing for fear of retribution.

Perp: He tackled me! It's assualt!!
Judge: You were stealing... idiot. Case dismissed.
