I'm not certain, but I think the root of the problem is texting. Kids text incessantly these days, and I think that's where they pick up their terrible habits.

To the OP, you'll do yourself a favor in the long run if you take the time to write they way they teach you in school using proper capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure. The adults of the world, who for many years to come will control your earning opportunities, are generally dismissive of youth who can not express themselves clearly in speech or in writing. If you also happen to use the word "like" more frequently than necessary, you might want to consider changing that, too if you want the respect of the generations in front of you.

If you don't care what we old guys think, then go ahead and interview for your next job with some of your friends. I'm sure many are hiring.

Sorry for the hijack but great responses to a problem that drives me crazy. I'm 63 and have a 25 yr old son who's thumbs are flat from texting.

Respect DOES still have to be EARNED. You are not entitled to $#&*!

I generally disagree if you think this problem is from texting. Not trying to insult anyone here, but I think problems like this generally result from bad parenting.... which is also the source of many of the problems with Generation Y and/or the Millennial Generation. I can't help but notice a correlation between social problems, and or behavioral problems and parenting problems. It seems that many of my high school classmates with parents who would just bend over and give them anything they wanted and were accepting of anything and everything never turned out to be much. Many of them simply joined the masses of unemployed in Michigan to feed off the system and can't find jobs because they don't even know proper English.
