Any one read "Mein Kampf"?

Just bought it and only about 30 pages in, it looks to be a difficult read. Anyone read it for school or anything like that?

Its a difficult read ... not because its deep or all that complex, but because its poorly written dreck (dipped in evil).

But it does give one a glimpse into the mind of Hitler ... and by extension a glimpse into the mind of every other dictator and leftist out there.

A more interesting read is the book he wrote as a followup to Mein Kampf ; Zweites Buch (which means "second book").

In it he lays out his multi-step plan which reads like alternative fiction...for one thing he expected the British to come down on the side of Germany (so the Axis would be Germany-Italy-Britain). He also planned on the final conflict for world domination (the war between the Axis and the US) to take place in the 80s.

But any of his writings are hard to read because it is really boring bloviating by a clearly hate filled schmuck ... if I wouldn't have been assigned them in school I probably would never have picked them up. Honestly Hitler makes Marx and Engels seem smart (although for historical perspective they're worth reading).

For contrast, you should also read the writings of our founding fathers ... Particularly The Federalist Papers (but not just them, our founders were prodigious writers). There you will find much better quality of writing and frankly a more enjoyable read (especially Ben Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanack ... every bit as fun to read as Mark Twain albeit not as sarcastic).

I'll put it this way,, Having the intrest in history,, I had it since I was about 8th grade,, I still haven't finished it... Though I have tried through the years..

Zundfolge pretty much nailed it.. Really dull.. I think the most I read at one time was about 250 pages. Then, I'd find some paint drying,, and my attention would be diverted..

From what I have read though,, Had He put that passion towards good instead of evil,, He would have gone down as one of the great leaders in history.. Very passionate about his agenda.. Hmmmm,,, sounds like a current occupant of the White House.. Nevermind...

+1, I tried to read Mein a few years back and got about as far as you are before I said forget it, make like Zund suggests and stick to the good old boys
