I have at one point needed Medicaid for my children (before denval420) But I also worked a full time job and paid my bills and taxes by MYSELF. I also have a good friend that has 2 kids is on housing takes care of the place and works 2 jobs. She is AMERICAN. So I feel it's ok if you are AMERICAN and you work.

I totally agree with you. i am all for helping people who are truly in need, what gets me is the people who don't work, have tons of kids to claim disabilities for them, and live their entire lives doing nothing productive or trying to get a job.

One thing that really gets me is New Orleans, they had Katrina, got all the help, trailers to live in, money to fix their homes even when they had no insurance, yet I fly over it 5-6 years later and they have blue tarps covering 30-40% of the roofs in a lot of areas, you drive by and you see a decked out never vehicle with 24in rims and spinners.

Sorry you had to go through that. I have a friend and co-worker who had his former family primary residence (they moved to a better home) in the program. I had to go with him to serve as a witness for him. We got to the house and found it was abandoned a week before (no notice) and was totally destroyed. It cost him thousands to get it back to rentable state. The .gov folks didn't cover all of the costs as they claimed thet would.

MB888 - Is there a way to have a limitation of "single-family" in your rental agreement ?

I agree with you Pr1ncess & you too Sniper. Some people actually need the help but they are doing everything they can to help themselves. It's those folks I have no problem helping. Everyone else can got in the gutter as far as I'm concerned.

Sniper - you mentioned the devastation caused by Katrina. You may recall that AFTER Katrina, Iowa had severe widespread flooding that created just as much devastation - but most of us never heard word one about that in the news - it was barely covered. Those folks didn't get all of the hand-outs and government help and freebies or all of the people coming to help rebuild like N.O. received. I suppose their racial and socio-economic status didn't warrant such aid.

It's in most standard contract - e.g. any visitor that stays over 14 days require to notify landlord etc etc etc. Most don't care to do so obviously.

The worst part about section 8 or free housing out there, these city inspectors will make you spend $$$ to replace carpet, windows etc etc etc eventhough the tenants are the ones who destroyed them. Once a year maintenance thing is ok by me, but I had a tenant who completely ruined my floor in a month then broke a freaking pipe in the basement to get the inspector out and cited me to replace all those. And BTW..the pipe got smashed with a hammer!!! Freeloaders! HANDOUTS will not help the poor and needy, it will put them into this gimme gimme gimme comatose syndrome. Most people know it, why mr. I know it all obama doesnt!!!!

TBF, when I lived in Florida we were hit directly by a couple of category 3 hurricanes in the space of a month and a year later there were still houses with tarps on the roof - and this was after we had contractors moving in to empty houses and living in teams to do recovery work. After Ivan (I think; the one that came in from the gulf and crossed the center of the state) it took about 18 months to restore power to some people. Katrina was many times worse than anything we went through.
