Shotshells and water

How water proof are Shotshells? I had a flood on Friday and the shells were in the cardboard box in a gym bag and the boxs on the bottom of the bag was soaked. I pulled the shells out of the wet boxes and placed them into an ammo can with a few of those Silca packs. If is was rifle ammo it would have not been a big deal, What do you guys think?

Plastic or paper casing? If plastic should be fine, can't tell you how many I've dropped in water at the duck blind and they still go boom

If plastic you are obviously better off, but still not a sure thing.

It depends upon the shell. I have had some go off fine the next year and other brands not go off right or at all.

It is unlikely water got in around the primer.

Some of those shells have a tiny opening where the crimps come together. Water can get in there.

Thanks, they are plastic and i saw the little hole where it was crimped so i got worried. These will be the ones to get used First.
