I agree.
Went there about twice (2006), and it was crowded.
There is no seize fire, so I just aim at dirts and other big chunks of stuff.
Picking up brass? Forget it.
It would be lucky just to sqeeze behind the shooters and leave the area.
St Vrain (north site) was my favorite area when I lived in Longmont.
I've been there many times and can't recall the exact the way. Next time I will write down the directions and post them.
The first time I went there it was spiritual. No crap. I just got into guns and couldn't believe you could shoot in the mountains without anyone watching over your shoulder telling what you can't do. Boy I had fun.
It also looked like those dump villages in China with all the crap everywhere.
I have never experienced anything like it, and for that I will always think fondly of it.

You're 100% right.

I used to love going up to the slot canyon on my lunch hour since I work in Boulder. During those times there wouldn't be many other people up there if anyone at all. It was horrible on the weekends though, and the trash was just ridiculous.
I've heard of this other Lefthand shooting spot but don't know where exactly it is. I've been wanting to take my son out to try out the shotgun he got for his b-day this spring but don't know of any other places to go that I don't have to make a day trip out of.
