    Question British Sniper - 1.5 mile shot(s)?

Anyone else read about this story?

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-sniper-shoots-down-canadas-bragging-rights/article1555772/

    http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/05/04/hotshot-sniper-half-mile-double-kill/

I ran some data through a ballistic program and the results make me question the probability of making 2 kill shots at 2700 yards.

Any thoughts all you long range shooters?

I'm no long range expert... but two FRH's at that distance?.... Not sure I believe it.

    Legit/confirmed kills?

No mention of rifle/bullet, etc... Don't know what to think...

If so, amazing/great/exceptional/etc job by the team.

The FOX news story stated that it took "almost 3 seconds" for the round to hit.

Given: .338 LM, 250 gr SMK, at 3000 fps muzzle velosity.

It would take almost 6 seconds to reach 2700 yards.

British issued AI L115A3 in .338 LM

Also, nice of them to publish his name, home town and number of children.

Makes me think the story is BS.

He's British, and he probably lives in London. If the Taliban go after him they'll be mugged, happy slapped and stabbed by a bunch of 15 year olds in about half an hour and it will be on youtube half an hour after that

338 Lapua using a Lapua 250gn Scenar Lockbase bullet.

The media gets a lot of stuff wrong.

But the Brits do know how to drive rifles.

    Hoser, is that issued ammo?

If so, I'll have to re-run my calculations.
