I kept hearing about this recently, and thought it was the old record set by the Canadian. I thought that one was also 1.5 miles. Maybe it was only 1.5 Kilometers.

I am not questioning the skills of the shooter.

I was looking at the physics and probability of making a 2700 yard shot.

oh, and they were headshots, and when I pushed the safety over, yes, I did say "SAFETY OFF" quite loudly

Question - is there a laser range finder that can measure that distance with less than a 5 yard error?

Using my previous data (250gr SMK) the danger area for that shot at 2700 yards is only about 10 yards for a 1/2 human torso shot.

    Another point.

The rounds would have gone subsonic around 2000 yards.

I can remember making 900+ yard shots on an old VW bus with a 10/22. As I recall, we were shooting downhill about 75 feet to the target, and we had to aim about 6-7 busses high......

Hit percentage was maybe 30% after we got the range, but those 50 grain bullets still had enough oomph to knock holes in the rusty parts...
