Russia has been known for dealing with sometimes excessive force to terrorists. And not only with Chechen rebels.For example, in September 1985 when four Russian diplomats were kidnapped in Beirut by Hezbollah, the then USSR responded in kind by first abducting a family member of an Hezbollah leader and then killing him very very gruesomely. The hostages were given back right away and Russia was never targeted in Lebanon again. Will Russia do the same today?

I dont think the Russians would ever thought that far... they probably let them go and at about 100 yrd or so, they run a small arms target drill.

Any SOF unit commander would understand the implications of leaving evidence, and so would his superiors relaying the orders to him. The Spetz are one of the best. They sunk that POS ship well far out of range of anything they were carrying.... Those waters have massive current, deep enough to make diving for the wreck very costly and difficult, and are filled with nasty critters.
