From what I understand, this doesn't really affect us as citizens. I think it more has to do with countries buying and selling arms to each other. Not necessarily importing for the private market. That's just the impression that I got though.

"There are no finger prints under water."
And Secretary Clinton can sign away the entire country, but until the Senate Ratifies a treaty, it don't mean sheit. If something like this is ratified, you can bet your last pair of clean undies that ever pro-gun group in the country will file suite and that will run up to the Supreme Court, at the very least during that process ratification would be held in limbo and there is no way the SC with the conservative majority will support a treaty like this.
There are a few more loopholes in the ratification of treaties and their application and affect on US law, but I don't have time to dig them up.
Also without reading the actual treaty, snippets and inference is really not worth raising the blood pressure
Rgr... don't you ever feel like there are pot shots coming from every side (i.e. immigration, racism, religion/tolerance, rights, etc) and that underneath all these hit and runs, there is something far deeper/darker going on? I do....
I know: "Put on the tinfoil Bear....."
Oh no, I agree with ya man... continual erosion of our country and the beliefs it was founded on. Just think this particular "treaty" is just not a particular threat in reality right now. Plus I've got these really great pain killers right now.. really helps.. for the most part![]()
this treaty thing has been going around for a while..

Reuters post is from Oct 9th... I searched for the article identifier on this site to find the previous thread.
Now I have not seen the text of the treaty and if its only for small arms trade then it should not effect our personal arms but if the text includes the small arms bans they have talked about in the past then we will have a problem and the fight on this will be over the interpretation of the underlined portion of Article 5 of the US Constitution. (see below for the referance)
Some say that this means any treaty the Fed's sign can overwrite the US Constitution and others believe the words as they are written, that this is talking about States and the States Constitution and not the US Constitution.
Article. VI.
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
