    Redundant isn't it? It make one thinks what the sponsor/co-sponsors of that bill know that we dont know.

    To me it's silly to have a law that says not to infringe the right thats guaranteed by the constitution.

    But, as any current and former servicemember can tell you, while serving in the Armed Forces, you do not have the luxury of all Constitutionally guaranteed rights as civilians do.

    Sadly, many military installation and organization commanders have been requiring their troops to register themselves and their privately owned firearms - even if they are stored/maintained off of the installation.

    This legislation is long overdue.

    Gates has told the Pentagon to revise the current personal firearm policy for military members due to the Ft Hood shootings. That tells me they will either ban them on base or make em all registered.

    Of course, neither of those solutions would have stopped the Ft. Hood tragedy, but the politicians can't be seen as doing nothing, can they?
