I bought a 10" and 12" steel targets while at the RMSC match. What type of ammo is safe to use against these?
I'll be hitting it with .22 .380 .40, just want to make sure I don't use ammo which is dangerous to me or the target.
Thanks!

If you bought it from Mike Gibson yesterday, it is AR-500. Pretty much any pistol caliber is fine from 7-10 yards.
If you decide to shoot at it with a centerfire rifle, you will be safe outside 75-100 yards. However the steel will last forever if you keep it past 200-250 yards.
Whatever you do, always wear eye protection when shooting steel. Even though the bullets disintegrate when they hit the target, you never know where all that splatter will go. With the 35,000 - 40,000 rounds shot at this weekends match, not one person needed a band-aid.
MGM Steel is the best stuff out there. You wont meet a better man.

Mike Gibson drove all the way down from Boise for this weekends match and donated over $1,000 worth of steel for the match. Which... we gave away to a lucky shooter at the end of the day.
He also donated $1,300 worth of steel for us to use at the LE/Mil 3-gun match in June.

Yeah the guy down by range 6 or so with the red pickup. I meant to get his name, so thanks.
There's no difference then between FMJ, HP, and Frangible for the pistol calibers? I know, for example, not to use these green tipped NATO M855 (or 885) rifle rounds, as they are explicitly steel penetrator. The PWest range says to only shoot stuff that isn't FMJ at their gongs because people just don't know what's a penetrator. The other thing I've heard is that if the bullet isn't attracted to a magnet, it's safe against steel.
Thanks for the tips
