Maxpedition FatBoy Versipack

I just purchased a Maxpedition Versipack Fatboy (smallest one they make) and thought I'd see if anyone has one and any feedback?

It's well built, and about the right size for what I wanted, primarily CCW and maybe some other items. I'm still goofing around with it, but I like it better than the fanny pack I was using on occasion.

It will hold larger weapons I'd say too, 1911 or XDm etc. Plenty of room. I purchased the universal holster that velcro sticks inside the ccw pocket. Dang thing sticks!

Practice practice practice. The draw from the pocket is what stopped me from using mine as a CCW carrier. I from time to time still use it, but only when there isn't a realistic way to conceal the pistol on me. Add to that, carrying a bag around all the time was a serious change of habit for me. The better half was reminding me too many times to make sure and grab my manpurse before we left some place.

I'll fiddle with the zipper pouch and holster stuff tonight probably. I need to get it setup for drawing the gun.

I'm still trying to figure things out... as they said in ccw class, you'll soon have a pile of belts, holsters, bags, etc as you figure out what works best for you.

It worked very well while I rode my bike around the hood last night doing my anti-graffitti process... +1 for that.

Well, if you're just looking to have an easy mode of transport for it, that's one thing. Everyone's different, but everyone I've spoken to over the years about using the bag as a general CCW carry came to the same conclusion I did. Great for just transport, doesn't even come close to being an alternative to a holster on your body. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I strongly urge you to get a holster especially if you're out cleaning up tagged areas. In the mean time, spend a crap ton of time practicing getting the weapon out of that pocket. I was using a sub compact .45 and a "compact" 9mm at different times and both were very difficult to get out of the pocket in what I would be comfortable with in a situation where I needed to pull my weapon.

not taken the wrong way... appreciate the information. I've primarily been using IWB for ccw, it works well, I'm comfortable with it. Summer is here and I'm a little tired of the 2nd shirt to cover it up etc.

The versipack does work well for transport, which is about all my old fanny pack was doing too, with the option to put it on when needed, so the versipack does the same goal with more pockets and stuff.

I'll invest in a better iwb someday... money expenditures have hit pretty hard in the last week or two. Lot's going out, less coming in.

Whew, OK, was just hoping you weren't depending on that to be your primary carry. What I can say is that the Cross breed holsters are the only ones that ever felt right for IWB for me. That's after primarily carrying OWB, which I still do from time to time, just have to have that second shirt or larger untucked shirt on

That bag makes a great little BOB. That's what I've finally resigned mine to. When I can't have my pack in the car, or when I travel, I'll pack that little guy with basics and it's good to go.

Sounds good, yes it has the look/feel of a small b.o.b.

I've been using a cheapo IWB from the gunshow, and it works good, I just don't like wearing an untucked shirt, so I've been covering up with a really really light fly fishing type shirt made by columbia. I did find some really nice looking extremely light shirts at sports authority, but they were $50. I'll pick up one of those sometime.

Graffiti: I'm all for the right time and place for "Artwork" but just to have your tag name or gang code written or sprayed on various objects throughout the neighborhood just pisses me off. So I wander around my neighborhood, which is about 1 square mile, and spray over it with the closest matching paint I have available. Yes, I'm spending my own time and money on this. The tagging that is on street signs, I just turn over to the City, they have a special website to submit this stuff and they have the right "cleaner" to get it off the signs without damage.

I love the artistic ability of these people doing the "Graffiti Art" as they call it, usually it's the stuff you'll see in the alley behind businesses and on freight trains, but I'm after the crappy stuff written on Phone boxes, street signs, telephone poles etc.

Here is a link to what some of the tagging represents and is associated with gangs... helps you know what you're seeing in the neighborhood. If it looks gang related, I usually will just take a picture and send it off to the city for their records and removal.

PS: Just as I arrived home a week or two ago, my son said "Hey, that kid just wrote on that sign!" as we looked out the window of the house, we saw a couple of punks walking away from the stop sign by the house. I went out and got their attention and asked if they wrote on that sign... they immediately started running... I gave chase for a few yards... and then just came home and notified local PD. I got in my car and kept the suspects surrounded in the local school property where they fled too while waiting on PD. Funny, it started to rain really bad too, so they would hide or run the other direction on the school property, I'd zip around the block and meet them on the other side... they would turn and head back the other way again... sure they were soaked after a while. ha ha. Gave PD the information related to people they were "With" at the time and where I last saw them. They made contact with their "friends" and not sure if anything ever really happened. Never heard anything more of it.

It seems to help keep it down when you cover it up all the time or get it removed.
