Default Looking for Camping spot near boulder (PRB) :)

Like the subject says, I am looking for advise for a location to do some tent camping somewhere near boulder.

My son has a desire to have a campfire and cook hotdogs on sticks etc.

He wants to have a bit of hiking and possibly pond/reservior fishing.

The main reason for the location is we want to go tomorrow morning and since Boulder is close it just makes sense.

I thought this crew could give me some good advice. I haven't camped around here before and not in a tent for quite awhile.

Since the North site is closed I guess there is no reason to go that far.

    Thanks.

I've not found a place I like in the near Boulder area. I like a few spots up at Estes or if you go north through Ft Collins there are some beautiful "semi-private" places along the Poudre River.

Downtown Boulder seems like they have alot of people camping out.

I am just looking for almost anything that allows a tent and a fire. I think someone would cry if we started a campfire in Boulder proper.

Anyone know if there are tent sites along the Lefthand Canyon?

Nope. No camping in the canyon. No camping on the side roads either. There is a motel that has some tent sites at 4 Mile Canyon but I would not recommend it.

There is a campground at Gross reservoir that can be accessed from Coal Creek Canyon.

You will have to go to the Peak to Peak highway to find sights.
    1. Camp Dick is nice with a fishing stream running through it (St Vrain), but usually booked on weekends. It is located on the west side between Nederland and Estes Park near Peaceful Valley.
    2. Kelley Dall is on the south side of Peak to Peak between Nederland and Rollinsville. Fishing in Boulder Crk west of Rollinsville.
Both are Forest Service sights you can make reservations online.
    3. Forest Service land that use to be open to camping between Lyons and Estes Park on the Johnny Park 4WD road northwest of Pinewood Springs. Pretty busy on weekends.
    4. Rocky Mountain Ntl Park out of Estes Park has lots of places to camp with some lake fishing.
    5. Brainard Lakes west of Ward on Peak to Peak. Also if you have high clearance you can camp near Left Hand Reservoir for lake fishing.

I am not aware of anything closer to Boulder. Maybe up toward Gold Hill off of the Old Switzerland trail? No fishing near.

Good luck! I hope you and your boy enjoy the out-of-doors.

Red Deer Lake is a 45 min. hike from Camp Dick. Take a spinner rod and some Tasmanian Devils. You can't not catch a fish there.
