    Seven basic plots:

There are only so many plots:

The perfect 1960 version of The Magnificent Seven was itself a remake of the 1954 Akira Kurosawa movie Seven Samurai.

The only complaint I have about any of Kurosawa's films is they are all pretty long. His version of King Lear is titled Ran and it is a very well done movie if you can sit through the subtitles.

We just watched the 1959 version of Ben-Hur. My wife wanted to read the book before watching this version in preparation for the release of the newest version. By the time the new version was release we had both decided that it would be a Netflix movie. The 1959 version cut most of the book plot post crucifixion but everything we've read about the new movie leads us to believe that the director/producer wasn't interested in the actual plot of the book.

Probably just a rehash of what we talk about and read everyday, but it still may be worth a watch"

The Finest Hours is free on Netflix. I saw the trailer in the theater, but I forgot to watch for it and it passed through the movie houses before I knew it.

It's a show about a Coast Guard station in 1951, and a small crew sent on a rescue operation during the most wretched winter storm on the ocean that I've ever seen. The effects are quite realistic. The cinematography reminds me of Gary Marshall's films. Chris Pine stars, and he does a good job.

This is a very good date movie, especially if your Significant Other is a gentle sort that abhors violence or gore. There is a shot of one body, but no blood or anything gruesome. The suspense is pretty thick, and you can be damn sue I am never, EVER setting foot in a boat or ship on the ocean after seeing this. EVER.

Tan, I need to track down an ex-husband who owes a lot of money and skipped town. I think he's on an Alaskan crabbing boat. You may need to go pretty deep undercover. Can I count on you for the job?

I'm going to give a thumbs down to a couple of movies I watched recently.

Point Break (the newer remake, not the original). Horrible show. Definitely not worth watching. No redeeming qualities as far as I'm concerned. I don't usually mind remakes too much but this was so far off the original it was horrible.

Next was the Revenant. The trailers made it look interesting and while it had some promise it really let me down.

I liked the Revenant. Do you feel like it might have been built up too much?

Yeah. That might be it. Can't really put a finger on why I didn't care for it.
