There are only so many plots:

The perfect 1960 version of The Magnificent Seven was itself a remake of the 1954 Akira Kurosawa movie Seven Samurai.

The only complaint I have about any of Kurosawa's films is they are all pretty long. His version of King Lear is titled Ran and it is a very well done movie if you can sit through the subtitles.
We just watched the 1959 version of Ben-Hur. My wife wanted to read the book before watching this version in preparation for the release of the newest version. By the time the new version was release we had both decided that it would be a Netflix movie. The 1959 version cut most of the book plot post crucifixion but everything we've read about the new movie leads us to believe that the director/producer wasn't interested in the actual plot of the book.
Everyone has a story to tell and even when the story is the same there are many ways to tell it.
