Just went and saw True Grit with the wife. Never saw the first one but this was done pretty well. Great humor throughout and some good action scenes. I love modern westerns though so YMMV. We had free tickets so we used them on that, I wouldn't spend the 10 bucks a pop for it though.

I won't see it. It's blasphemous. They've tread on scared ground by remaking a John Wayne movie; especially the one that won him an Oscar.

Yeah, there are both sides to the new True Grit. I'm personally damn excited to see it, but I do have mixed feelings. From what I've heard, this one follows the book more than the original, but we'll see

Original was on the tube last night.

Wife says the same thing "How dare they make a remake of The Dukes Movie."

Not sure maybe wait til it's on PPV. hate theaters anyway.

It's just merchandising by re-branding. Look at all the new movies coming out with old titles that have little to do with the originals.

I like the original True Grit. It's in my DVD collection. I also like the Cohen brothers. So, I'm torn.

I can't wait for Red Dawn.

Saw True Grit with the wife last night and I thought it was the best movie I have seen in a long time.

No they didn't. They made a movie from the original book. According to all the reviews, the John Wayne movie was lame and soft (unlike the novel) and this one isn't. The Brothers said they didn't even watch the movie. Also, apparently, much of the script was lifted directly from the book. Sounds like Mr. Wayne is the blasphemer here.
