Default Did you know that Blackhawk banned bicycles?

Well, I guess they did. Here is a completely unbiased reader response about it.

    http://303cycling.com/Bikes-banned-i...ado-town-roads

Bikes banned in Colorado town roads
The town of Black Hawk, Colorado banned bicycles from most of its local streets. And Black Hawk Mayor David Spellman — who won the mayoral election unanimously in 2008 — is a drunken wife beater who consistently ranks as the most corrupt public official in Colorado. Really.
To “promote safety” (retards! pinheads! idiots!), the casino town of Black Hawk in the Colorado Front Range has banned bikes from local streets. Police have been ticketing cyclists riding through town since the ban became effective last January 2010.
As Austin On Two Wheels notes about the safety angle:
Safety. Yeah. Right. Do you know what the number one cause of accidental deaths in the US is? Cars, not bicycles. Do you know the leading cause of all deaths? Heart disease brought on a sedentary lifestyle that involves driving everywhere you go. If they really cared about the health and well being of their citizens, Black Hawk would ban cars, not bikes.
The city of Blackhawk website is down as of this writing, but the city’s (apparently official) Facebook page brags about the “many transportation options” in Black Hawk. City Hall phone number is (303) 582-2210 and (303) 582-2212, mailing address is PO Box 68, Black Hawk, CO, 80422 if you’d like let them know how you feel. The city manager’s name is Mike Copp – his email address seems to be citymgr@cityofblackhawk.org; the mayor is David D. Spellman. The Planning Department, which probably doubles as the dog catcher in this town of around 100 people, is planningdept@cityofblackhawk.org.
Mayor David Spellman, incidentally, seems like a real character. In 2006, he was convicted of felony assault after he pistol whipped his wife — beating her several times in the head with a .38 and then shooting three times in a drunken rage — during a domestic dispute. In 2008, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations determined that Spellman personally received more than $1 million in state historical funds that were meant to preserve and restore the historical character of Black Hawk (the town council approved the purchase of land from Spellman using the state funds); he and several other town officials remain under investigation, and the former town manager was forced to resign. In 2009, Spellman purchased the local newspaper that was critical of him and fired the editor. Mayor Spellman consistently has topped the “Most Corrupt Public Officials list in Colorado. He and the town her represent seem like real gold mines.

Good for Blackhawk, I hate the road biker fuckers in Boulder. they think they own the place and never follow any of the rules of the road. Boulder could make more money ticketing these fuck heads then the damn red lights cams could.

    Daniel,
You don't have much of a vocabulary, do you? All your posts seem to have the same tired vulgar language.

Ran across this on The Firing Line. Thought it had some good thoughts.

Language that would be inappropriate in the polite company of strangers is quite unwelcome here.

To assist the users in achieving this goal, the forum software is equipped with a language filter.

The language filter is not there to prompt you to invent creative ways to defeat it. If the language filter does't like the word then DON'T USE IT!

Don't star letters out so that the meaning is clear but the filter doesn't catch it.
Don't use acronyms that obviously include a disallowed term.
    Just don't.

    Thanks for your support.

This isn't the firing line, and a privately owned site as far as I know.
The mods are pretty good at their jobs and you are not one of them. They can handle it if they deem the post to be out of control. Opinions, even heated and vulgar, are still given their due here for the most part. I find it'e easier to weigh opinion when the communication is uninhibited by what's deemed politically correct.
You have one post... Probably not the best way to start out introducing yourself to the masses.

As to the OP, I'm not suprised by this at all. Seriously, you mean there's corruption problems in a town almost soley supported through the gambling industry? Say it isn't so... Next thing you tell me is they have high dollar prostitution happening there...

I've lived the majority of my life in CO, and I have yet to find a reason to go to Blackhawk. This all rates about a 1 out of 10 on my give-a-crap scale.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Anyone that thinks war is good is ignorant. Anyone that thinks war isn't needed is stupid.

    1 post?.... FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! $&^&(*% #%&$^* son of a #&^^&*!!!

Road bikers should follow the same road rules but they rarely do. There have been several accidents caused by bikers in my neck of the woods... though I'm sure that there have been several bike accidents caused by cars as well.

i am glad they banned the bikes. it is mostly older people or diabled or drunk people up there...that is all you need is a bunch of boulder bike riders to come flying down the mountain to get tagged by an old couple or them riding through the town not getting out of the way. they think they own the road in boulder and everywhere else they ride. if you look at the winding canyon road into blackhawk and all the blndd curves those dumb fucks may realize not riding there is a good idea because when a bus hits them they will lose. if they cant go the speed limit posted they shouldnt be allowed on that road. they can go buy a exercise bike and a tv.

Don't know what its like these days but Lefthand Canyon was a nightmare on a Sat/Sun with them riding 3/4 abrest, chugging up the hill and you trying to get around them. (sorry guys, I just don't use big words and the naughty F word is my favorite since growing up on Long Island)

i am pretty sure they cant stop the people you think they are stopping. they cant ban bikes on hwy 119. that is a state highway. it is the peak to peak highway. this is frequented by bicyclists as well as us who ride harleys (or those other bikes...just kidding). they are stopping local, employees, etc. from riding to work from the upper parking lots, thier houses in Central city. i lived many years in the mountain near there. it of course now sucks. i also worked in the casinos for a couple years. the mayor is a crook. so, its once again about screwing someone. David, the mayor probably is getting back at someone who lost thier license and now needs to ride a bike to get to work.

the idea of putting gambling in the mountains, up a steep 2 lane road, that has a sheer wall on one side and creek on the other was stupid. they should have built casinos at the new airport site or the old stapleton complex at the time. so many accidents, so scary with the drinking and gambling and then the inevitable driving home.
