We had a great day today. Anybody done Schubarth Loop before? Got a little wet there at the end with the storms rolling in, but that was the best part.
Met with some friends who had never been 4wheeling before and decided to take it easy and bang around Rampart and hit up Schubarth, which was on my list for a while due to the AF Academy overlook. Even better though was that set of rocks near the end of the trail where someone had built a nice big lean-to / campsite under the rock. Nothing technical and a lot of washboard "roads" but the early rain kept the dust down pretty well. Didn't see many people shooting on the Rampart stretch in between Monument and Woodland Park.
I did notice the very end of the trail at the overlook had been burned out. I was surprised as the rest of the trail was fine as was most of the area we could see surrounding it. Wonder if was just a small pocket of fire, or if maybe the forest road made it easier for the firefighters to get to...?
Anyway, had a great day. Wish I would have taken pics. I think we got a couple near the campsite, but that was about it.
Yep. You have to go up into Alice to get to Lommand right? Of the three bodies of water (Fall River, Loch Lommand, and Chinns), the trail to Chinns is the most difficult. They are all easily doable with a stock 4x4 truck.

www.traildamage.com figured I should post this, as it's my main source for trails.
That is one of the best put together trail guides on the net in Colorado. I still like my old paperback books Colorado outdoor trails cause they also show developed camping areas so you can pre plan. Sometimes finding that right spot will take you half the day.
I am still planning on next Saturday camping wheeling with the wife and 2 terrorists. Since I have no fellow buddies I think go close and mild.
West Magnolia, camp / hike around the old mine equ areas. Then Sunday go up to Rollins Pass east and hike to needles eye, Play at Yankee Doodle Lake then head down and explore Mammoth gulch. (all these our off the the same road. Very Convenient. )
Anyone want to join just PM me to make arrangements to meet up.![]()

Never done any wheeling in a vehicle but I'm thinking about taking the wife and hoping in my truck and heading out in a little while. Just have to find a place easy enough for a stock rig but still scenic an fairly close to Denver.
Just what I mentioned above.
WEST MAGNOLIA which is up out of Rollinsville, same road you take to Rollins Pass East. You could easily do it with a truck, no major anything obstacles or anything and some great views and hiking areas. Usually go up there for Fall colors.
