My 4Runner does not have the rear locker, very, very rare in the 5 speed. I haven't needed it so far but then everything has been pretty easy, just really bumpy.

I'm sure your Jeep would do great.....
I'm in the for the scenery too...and I want to go hiking when I get up there if I there is a trailhead.

I've done LOTS of wheeling with front/rear open diffs, and I've accessed some pretty gnarly trails.

Honestly I didn't want the truck with a locker because I'd be seeking out exceptionally rough trails, but more so for peace of mind, in case I do run into something nasty while exploring, or the off hand chance that we ever get a really nasty winter.

Lockers? You don't need no stinking lockers. Left foot braking and skinny pedal is all you need. (unless you're in a bog, then they're nice )

Here's my mountain goat, 95 Tacoma. Hopefully I'll be able to start and finish my FJ60 in the next decade.

i was on mosquito pass today. man is that a rock garden, so much for riding my mtn bike up it. the motorheads were having trouble coming down in a couple of places. i think i floated my pass rear tire b/c i had chosen the wrong line down and was committed to a technical (for me) maneuver. so i went over and down the rock (it was cool feeling the truck ease down the rock face - thought i was going to smash my running board - so they are coming off) and then the back end corner seemed to float and then i kept going slowly down and the floating sensation went away when i got all 4 back on the ground.

it was very hard for me but i learned some lessons.

    1. watch your line

    2. don't go doing tech stuff by yourself

that 4runner is a GREAT truck - it helps build confidence b/c it is so steady

Very nice to see you get out and test you and your rigs abilities!

I made the same mistake this weekend. First time over an obstacle I scraped the crap out of one of my skids (something I'm working hard to avoid with this truck), second time over the same obstacle, I had my wife guide me with no issues. That was a rookie mistake, and I'm no rookie lol.

Definitely ditch the running boards if you don't truly need them. You can always throw them in storage and reinstall them for when you get old enough to need them, since we know Toyota's can last that long lol.

Yah it was fun. I have factory skids, i was thinking about BudBuilt for next year and sliders.

Ditched The hardest thing was figuring the sizes to remove all the connection hardware, 10mm wrench, 13mm 3/8 drive socket, 14mm and 15mm 1/2 drive socket. I probably could have just used the 3/8 drive on all of them.

I like to go wheeling. I don't have anything real crazy but fun enough to make it up (or around) most obstacles in CO. I've added rock sliders since this picture.

I need to save this thread; get together with some of you. I am really anxious to get out on the trails. I have two K5s that I am building, but unfortunately they are toward the bottom of my endless priority list. I have been out on some of the moderate trails in my 'burban.
