How does 11 at the Mills mall sound, then we can just shoot up the hill as a group?
Is Mills Mall off of exit 234?

I would take exit 263 (Denver West Blvd.) and head back east. When you hit the traffic light at Colfax you will see the mall. Or you can take the Colfax exit and head back east a bit. The mall is close to I-70 and Colfax.

    Guys doing the Empire Loop?

Traffic from 119 over to I-170 up to Idaho Springs was horrible.

Labor day weekend coupled with the tunnel repair took forever to get through Idaho Springs to Fall River road. So just prepare for the traffic.

    My camping weekend plans?

We Got to Chinn Lake at 12pm Sat. Found a decent campsite as everything at the lake was taken. Set up, went for a short walk, gathered some kindling.

Wife worked Friday night and had been up since 4pm the day before so she was exhausted and wanted to take a nap. Boys decided to take a nap in the tent as well. 2:00pm thunder, lightening and a drenching rain rolled in.

Didn't stop, by 6:30 everything was drenched, muddy, and couldn't get a fire going as it kept getting drenched. Oldest boy was coughing and sneezing he already had a minor stuffy nose so this wasn't good. His temp was 100 and got worried considering even if the rain stopped by 7-8 the night was going to be cold. Decided for saving us a cold miserable night we tore down camp in 45 minutes and headed back home.

Still raining as we went down the trail, and down the Hwy until we got to Golden.

We had Smores on the porch, apparently that is all the boys REALLY wanted to do.

A colossal failure for a camping trip. Boys are too young for that KIND of camping, need to have nice weather for the boys to camp. Probably will go back up there next weekend to spend a day exploring and have a picnic. Avoid the traffic and the Holiday.

Sorry to hear about the foiled camping Skully.

Ray, thanks for clearing that up for me about the mall. I grew up right there. I can't believe it never occurred to me which mall Hurley was talking about. Doh.

Thanks for the heads up on traffic Skully, sorry to hear about the camping trip.

I can offer a plan B near Lyons if anyone is worried about traffic? Would involve checking out the old plane crash sight. Just let me know

    Thanks!

Kind of depressing since we held off camping last year '12 as our last camping trip Aug '11 was miserable as well. 2 niter in a nice campsite up at St Elmo. Youngest was 2 at the time, he was excited at first, boy loved dirt what could be better? He became this whiny brat who didn't want to do anything we were doing, hounding mom the entire first two days, and night. On the eve of the 2nd night camping mom was frazzled and about ready to pull her hair out. We torn down and headed home.

So this time was going to be different, even the wife wanted 2 nights but I overruled saying lets see how the 1st night goes. Hope though, the boys were both doing good, just the weather and the fear of the oldest getting sicker.
