How and where does one get involved in competition shooting? Looking for a new sport.

Saturday morning at 0730 Ben Lomond Gun Club. I'll be taking the required safety class for USPSA/IPSC competition. Match starts after the class.

Come on out. I can assure you that you won't be the only first time shooter there. Feel free to get a hold of me. I'm in Elizabeth.

    Brian.

Just find a location, check the rules, and show up is how I did it.

The CO front range is a very active pistol shooting competition location. There is USPSA, IDPA, Bianchi Cup, and Steel Challange just to name the regular matches. There are some renegade matches too that follow their own rules. USPSA is by far the most active.

www.ecouspsa.com is the site for the match schedules, maps to the ranges, and contacts for the various matches.
www.uspsa.com is where you can find the info about that type of competative shooting. Steel challange is also ran by USPSA, but I can't remember if the rules are posted on the uspsa site or not.
    www.idpa.com for the IDPA rules.
Not sure where to look for Bianchi Cup.

The next pistol match in the local area is the HPPS club match for USPSA competiton at the Ben Lomand Gun Club out by Kiowa and Ramah. There is a map to the range on the ecouspsa web site. New shooters orientation starts at 0730 and the match starts at about 0945ish if everything goes right. I also recommend just coming out and watching a match the first time. I watched two before I shot a match and it helped out a lot. I read the rules about 4 or 5 times too, some before I watched a match and a couple of times after. If you are interested, pm me and we can discuss equipment and ammo.

Edited to add: Oops, forgot the Wed. afternoon steel match down in Pueblo West. If you want to try that out, let me know or better yet pm Hoser (a mod here on this site) as he runs the matchs.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.
