    We should definitely do it!
I'd love to learn a proper way to fish!

Thank you but I work during the week and Saturday mornings, so it would be a nightmare to try and meet up with someone. However, how is Standley? I caught this fish at the rock quarry over in Federal Heights.

I know what you mean about being over whelmed. I've probably fished about 10 times since I started this thread, and this was the first time I ever caught anything.

A shooting fishing trip would be fun.

Let me put it that way - I've never left the Standley lake empty handed...

That is a big trout Trigger.

The last time I caught a fish was when someone set up the rod for me at the private lake above Georgetown almost 10 years ago. Actually now that I think about it, I was just there, I wasn't even holding the rod. The last time must have been when I was in Georgia at a stocked pond (maybe 1.5 acres?) on private property. They even fed the fish and it wasn't even fair. It was almost literally catching fish in a barrel.

I have seen and caught bigger. While growing up in AK my family had property on a semi private lake. Fishing was very hot and cold, but if you were patient you could catch some really BIG fish. Like 18-35" rainbows. We called them football and baseball bat fish. One being long and skinny and the other being nice and fat. We found that trolling with "cowbells" and worms were the most reliable.

Oh yeah, you reminded me. The fish were jumping out of the water all around me (giving me the finger) and I wasn't getting any bites. So I called my uncle and he suggested using a bobber with a night crawler. I just happened to have both, and within a few minutes (under 5) I was getting my first bites. This was after hours of just sitting there with a trout rig floating off the bottom. I had just picked up my phone to text my wife about how horrible of a fisherman I am when I got the first nibble.

In between the trout rig and the worm rig, I spent a bit casting with some lures. I don't really know how to reel back lures and wasn't sure if I was reeling too fast or too slow, or if the fish just weren't interested.

Also, I am now using the 10lb braided line that I talked about in my BOB thread (did we lose that?) and I had a difficult time with it. Braided line really likes to snag and knot itself while casting. I must have taken 20-30 yards of line off the rod from clearing some really nasty knots. The good part is that by the end of the night, I was getting pretty good at tying a fisherman's knot.

Finally, I guess they kick you out at dark, but I was trying to milk it and got caught trying to clean up in the dark with a small flash light. The guy was nice enough to wait for me and I was the last one out. It helped that I was carrying my small light in my mouth or he would have left and locked me in. I caught a toad on my way out and brought it home for my daughter. The fish tasted pretty good by the way.

You don't need anything more than 3-4 lb test. mono line.
