Set the drag on your reel at 1/3 the breaking strength of the line and it's quite easy to land a fish that's only as big as the line strength.

4 pound line records, as of 2009:

Is that so when the fish pulls, it just lets some line out, then you reel the fish in each time it rests? Interesting...there is so much I don't know about fishing.

That fish I caught, which I believe was a 9" Rainbow Trout, was so easy to reel in I thought that I lost it.

6x and 7x tippit used in fly fishing are in the range of 2-4lb test. I've caught hundreds (ok, ok, its actually thousands) of trout on that light a line. Many were over 4 lbs. Good reel, good line, good technique.

Not that it would be easy to do, but you guys should take a trip to Junction and fish in the colorado - gunnison junction. People regularly pull out 3-4 foot cats and bigger all the damn time. I've never had any luck, but i've been fishing since I was little and maybe only caught a hand full of fish... bad luck...

    Congrats stu!

Nothing better than a 4 weight fly rod and ultra light spinning setup and causing hell on beaver pond brookies.

I use the 50lb test line from walmart. It's actually thread. Use to catch a lot of big catfish.
