That was the point of the other thread to, weight savings. However there were a bunch of people who didn't want them in their car at all, citing the only reason being that the air bag COULD fail. Well if you take it out, then there is 100% chance that it won't work. Those guys just don't get it.

my weight savings is on a car that gets miles on it 1/4 at a time... If it's not on a drag strip it's on a trailer. If you take them out of a daily driver to save weight that's pretty stupid.

Yep on daily drivers. I told them good luck with their brain damage bills when the insurance company finds out that you took your airbags out.

    Oblig anti-statement:

Cousin (a 6'4" blonde, no less) was in a mid-80's Suburban and got T-boned in the driver door. Paramedics and cops both expected to be scraping a pile of goo off the inside of the door and grill of the gravel truck.

She wasn't wearing her seat belt, so she only had a bruised left side (hip and shoulder mostly) and some cuts on the right side where she broke the passenger window out.

In this case, a seat belt would have meant "cut her into 3 large parts for easy removal".

    Default Not just saved lives

Seat belts help decrease injuries as well as save lives. An accident that would not be fatal without seatbelts can still cause severe injuries. You should wear them to protect you from all accidents.

I was in a serious accident many years ago. It was sorta head on with both cars going about 50 mph. I know the seatbelt saved my life. Many years later a coworker had an accident that was almost identical to mine except at only about 10 mph. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He ended up on disabiled because of the leg injuries he had kept him from working. I can think of other examples too.

I can also cite an example of someone living because of not wearing a seatbelt. But I can also cite a dozen without thinking hard of people that are alive because they were wearing one. I like the odds with the belt better.

I am flat out totally opposed to mandatory seatbelt and helmet laws but I always wear them.

    Be safe out there.

Since I have personally responded to hundreds of car accidents I can say that I have yet to see a seat belt kill someone. I have seen people die while wearing them, but the other factors involved are the cause of death. Had those people been not wearing them, they would have still been just as dead but messier

That was a very good video! Certainly not what I was expecting.
