Lobo Gun Leather - A review

Y'all may remember me mentioning this holster maker previously.

WAY back on June 22nd I dropped my CZ 75 SA .40 off with Ray at Lobo Gun Leather to cut a holster for my hard-to-fit CZ (the SA is different from the standard CZ 75, furthermore the .40 is different as well). I picked it up yesterday! (June 28).

So for less than $60 and in a week I got a real nice custom holster (honestly unless you're local, I seriously doubt he'll get a holster out to you that fast, and Ray admits that my holster just happened to fall into his schedule perfectly, but even at three times the turn around time he's still fast).

I got a "Model 1 Pancake" with slide shield and detailed boning in Cordovan Brown.



Overall I'm very pleased with it. It looks good, its not-too-tight/not-too-loose and holds the gun nicely. One great thing about having a holster maker make the holster directly from your gun is you can get little custom touches done. For example I had him do the boning with the gun cocked and locked (which you can't do with a pistol mold) So the holster assists in keeping the safety locked while carrying (this is a SA pistol that is carried Cocked & Locked like a 1911).

Normally Ray adds a nice little touch that I requested he not do on mine. He twists the leather slightly just outside the belt slots which makes it fit very nicely (I have this habit of adding spring clips to pancake holsters to convert to IWB so I didn't want this feature, but if you are going to wear the holster OWB like a normal person this should make them even more comfortable ... you can see what I'm talking about in this other review of a Lobo holster).

Basically you take a pair of spring clips, drill a hole in the back side (this is where a drill press and some good, hard diamond/carbide bits is a good idea as spring steel is effing hard! ... this last set I did I ended up drilling a small pilot hole and then using a dremel with a cone shaped grinder attachment to get the hole large enough).

I got the spring clips here.

Then you use some Chicago Screws (you can usually get them at leather-work supply stores) and a couple washers (from Ace Hardware).

wow thats a long wait LOL. Looks really good. I like local shops that do gun related things. I needed a drag bag fix and the first place the libby lezbo fliped out 2nd place the guy was really cool about it and said if you can think it up he can make it out of nylon.

That Steyr looks familiar! I'm deff. gonna see this guy about leather sooner or later.

Note that the holster the Steyr is in is not one of Rays. It was done by a guy named Mark Waldon who unfortunately doesn't do gun leather anymore.
