Default Is there something wrong with the XD45?

It seems that every time I see a used XD go up for sale it is usually a 45. I don't seem to notice as many 9mm or 40 cal ones hit the market. Is there a reason people are getting rid of their XD45s?

Every tactical instructor I know of doesn't trust them because they jam up during classes. This applies to ALL XD models, the non M 9mm is the most reliable version, but this is relative. One 9mm locked up during fighting pistol. I can send you links to threads or just join getoffthex.com and search for xd problems (don't post the same question they don't like repeating themselves)

    Get a glock or m&p.

I have had Glocks in the past and they are great guns. I was mostly just curious and was trying to better educate myself. Thanks for the reply.

I've never heard about that problem with XDs and seriously doubt that is why people are selling them.

My guess was that it is strictly numbers. If SA sold more of the XDs in 45 than other calibers then it would make sense that most of the ones on the used market are 45s. That was my original thought. Just wasn't sure.

That's what I was thinking as well. If not, then I guess no one trusts Glock 9mm either.

Seen it happen. The gun had to be put in a vice and beat open with a hammer. The instructors made it clear that it's a semi common occurrence for XD's. The M series have a weak barrel ramp and get dents from rapid fire ball ammo.

Then there's the parts availability issues.

I don't think it's why they're being sold, but it's certainly kept me from buying one. A shame because they're much more comfortable than a glock.

Are you talking about XD or XDM? They are different handguns. I'm guessin' we can compare good reviews to bad reviews all day.

After break in, I have had no problems with an XD40. The XD45 is still in the break in process but has had no problems.

Personally, I am not a fan of Glock ergonomics. Granted, they are reliable.

    YMMV

+1. Wulf's right on the money.

Until the XD's can demonstrate years of (a much better) track record, like Glock has, I personally will continue to pass.

I have a XD that has well more then 10,000 and the only malfunction it has had has been a stove pipe. Well a couple more but that was from learning to reload and putting to much crimp on the bullets and having failure to feed. They truly are great guns.

I am calling BS on instructor story. I have only heard bad things from people that are die hard glock fans.

Glocks are great guns but lets face facts; there is a new competator in town and they are giving Glock a run for there money.
