    Default Who's got a chronograph

How many of you guys have chrono's and actually use them to test your hand loads?

I just worked up some new loads and I am curious to see what they are compared to my older loads.

i have a chrono, i use it frequently. without knowing actual velocity it is all a guess. sometimes you might think you are nearing signs of high pressure, with a chrono you can check to see if you are getting more than you should. published data vs. actual velocity is sometimes significant. especially with different barrel lengths.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have never really thought I "needed" one, but I guess it is probably a good idea to have one, huh?

sabot, that is the one I have been looking at. Looks like they get "descent" reviews and they are priced right.

    Thanks

CED M2, which I use it at least once a week. If you do not have/use chrono, it is only guessing

Oehler P35 here. Once I get the rifle loads in the area then I load up/down for the group. My .223 loads are just over 3000 but my .308 loads are at the low end.

I too have/use a Chrony. I rarely use it as I rarely get out and shoot these days.

    I'm long overdue.

I too own a chrono, a cheapie but it's accurate.

I would also add a word to to Hannu's post right before use, and that would be 'correctly'. Chrono's are a measuring devise based on the time it takes the projectile to traverse over two photo sensors placed an exact distance from each other. The photo sensors are light dependent, and the variation of light conditions can cause the system to miscalculate results. Read the directions, understand the outside factors and how they impact the measuring device, and calibrate it with a known sample before testing unknowns. If you don't your variations may be so large you are still essentially guessing.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

I have and use one regularly. I never needed it until I went to long range rifle shooting. That piece of data is critical if you want to use ballistic software to generate a come up table.

Oh, it's a Shooting Chrony, but I forget the model. The user interface is like something from the 80's. It works, but if I were in the market I'd get something with a more modern design.
