Default Advanced CCW Pistol Class with force-on-force training

    Advanced CCW

This course is designed for those who carry a firearm every day, all the time. After a brief review of fundamentals and shooter diagnostics, you immediately work into multiple shots and targets, malfunctions, reloads, turns, movement, barricades, shooting positions, and drills. After lunch, the training intensifies with scenario based training using UTM™ (http://utmworldwide.com/) converted firearms and ammunition. Based upon the FBI’s Street Survival program for field agents, the stress inoculation lab will test not only your firearm mechanics, but your decision making process under fire! You will be presented with shoot/no-shoot scenarios against role players and other students to expose you to the actual stresses of a gunfight. This stress inoculation is the same style of training recommended by Lt. Col. (ret) Dave Grossman, author or On Killing and On Combat.

***UTM™ munitions are designed to induce a level of realism into the training environment. They HURT when you get hit! Appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) necessary will be provided for the training, however understand that the induction of stress (getting hit) is essential for the stress inoculation lab and development of the survival mindset. ***

    Equipment Needed:
    Handgun (.380 or larger)
Holster for handgun/belt. No crossdraw, shoulder, ankle, or fanny packs allowed due to safety concerns.
At least 2 spare magazines (or speedloaders) for your firearm
    450 rounds of ammunition
Concealment clothing (Jacket/windbreaker, vest, loose shirt, etc…)
    Hearing and Eye Protection (wraparound)
    Brimmed hat recommended
    Cleaning kit
No less than 2 liters of water
    Groin protection for males
Long sleeve shirt and pants for stress inoculation (thick coats or armor not allowed)
Comfortable shoes (no open toe shoes or sandals)
Appropriate weather gear (rain jacket, sunscreen, lip balm, etc…)

    Prerequisites:
Must have a current CCW or a certificate of completion from a handgun training course (hunters education does not fulfill the requirements).

Only the rich can be trained.... damn.

I'm kidding with you. Sounds like a great class. We expect lots of pics!!

Is the UTM munitions the same things as Simunitions?

UTM adressed the reliability issues (or lack thereof) with Simunitions and improved the projectile. As a result, it is slightly heavier than Simunitions and stings a bit. UTM is also a rimfire round, this preventing any mistakenly fired in a non-converted firearm or a live round being fired in a UTM scenario. Stuff runs great out of our full auto!

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds really neat. I always thought the old "Laser tag" system was useless... Needed something to actually hit you without wounding, lol. Good luck on the class.

I don't know much, but what I've learned so far definitely supports the notion that training has to include response to stress, and it sounds as though this training may accomplish that.

I actually don't mean 'response' to stress...I mean simply dealing with it through knowing it and its insidious effects. For me, it's an absolute killer, and much of it is what I'd call self-induced. Nothing else means much, really, if you haven't been 'trained' to deal with it first.

Should you take the regular CCW class if you've never had formal training before? Do you offer any one on one training?

    Stuart,

The reason we recommend a previous handgun course is to prevent the inevitable student who does not know the basic of thier pistol, ie...loading, basic shooting fundamentals, etc... If you can demonstrate basic proficiency then accomoditations can be made. Since there are turns, shooting while moving, presentations from the holster and such, we do not want to rest of the class held up for a shooter that is still figuring out which end points downrange. If someone feels that they are not quite ready, we can provide 1:1 training if needed. If you have ever wanted to see how you handle the stress of a gunfight, then this is what you've been waiting for. YOU WILL BE IN A 1:1 GUNFIGHT in this class (using UTM ammunition of course) and WILL GET HIT! We can tell you from experience that ther is no closer simulation to the real thing than this: adrennaline dump, tunnel vision, loss of fine motor skills, etc... If you can't make the July class, there will be another in Sept.

    Stay Safe...

Thanks for the response. I've done about 5-10 shooting matches, and have my CCW, but have never actually had formal training for basic shooting. I'll contact you as soon as I can afford to.
