    Default Defensive Carbine/Rifle Class

    Defensive Carbine

This course is designed for students who not only want to know about their rifle, but how to make it work like it should. This is not a Power Point lecture, but a hands-on, full day on the range deck class that will push the skills of each shooter, novice or seasoned operator. Starting with a review of rifle fundamentals and shooter diagnostics, the class quickly progresses into defensive skills needed to survive any encounter such as: multiple shots, multiple targets, reloads and malfunctions, turns, movement, barricades, alternate firing positions, and terminal ballistics. THIS IS A SHOOTING CLASS! Throughout the class, students will learn to control and drive the carbine from a professional cadre of military and law enforcement trainers.

***This is NOT a class on military/LE tactics. This class is focused on how to use the rifle/carbine as an effective defensive tool, to push the shooter to their fullest potential, and to help shooters grow in the shooting community. Although “tactical” gear will suffice, it is encouraged that shooters bring reasonably appropriate defensive gear to the course. ***

    Equipment Needed:

    Defensive Carbine/Rifle (AR-15, AK, Mini 14/30, etc…)
Sling for carbine/rifle. (Single point and 2 point preferred)
At least 2 spare magazines for your carbine/rifle
Magazine pouch for rifle magazines recommended but not required
    Handgun, holster, and magazines
750 rounds of rifle ammunition (no armor piercing), 100 rounds of handgun ammunition
    Hearing and Eye Protection (wraparound)
    Brimmed hat recommended
    Cleaning kit
No less than 2 liters of water
Long sleeve shirt and pants recommended
Comfortable shoes (no open toe shoes or sandals)
Appropriate weather gear (rain jacket, sunscreen, lip balm, etc…)

    Cost:
    $200 per student.

Checked web site and couldn't find a location for the rifle class. I see your office is in Loveland but where do the live fire classes take place ? Thanks.

    Hey coloccw,
Just a thought from my perspective. I like the description of the class and I would definitely jump onboard but for one thing--the cost of the ammo. I understand (I am a competitive shooter) that you actually have to shoot in these classes...but 850 rounds is looking at well into the hundreds of dollars of ammo, if it can even be found in that quantity (which it still can't in some locals). Add that to the price of the class, the price of getting there and the other costs and the cost becomes really significant. I don't doubt for a moment that it is a great class from the description but these are hard times and ammo is almost as precious as gold....
Why not cut the number of rounds required down some? Many of the national trainers have done so over the past couple years as ammo got so expensive and difficult to find. My own feeling, having attended many, many training classes over the years, is that nothing can be learned shooting 850 rounds that can't be learned shooting 500 rounds. And 500 rounds is alot more relaxing and enjoyable in that it allows a person to actually slow fire and practice good technique rather than just ripping off rounds in the general direction of the target.

Any mid-teenager (ish) that can demonstrate responsibility and follow range safety rules as well as meet the physical demands of the course will be allowed provided that a parent is there the entire course (parent does not have to attend the class, although they will miss all the fun!). I do not want to put an age limit as we encourage youths to participate in shooting sports and encourage even more that families participate. We've seen some 12 year olds that are prefect models of the shooting community (responsible, respectful, safe, and conscious of others) and, on the other end of the spectrum, the occasional adult that does not come close to that critera.

To surmise, responsible minors will be allowed with parental supervision.

    Soco11,

I appreciate your concerns and perhaps this will address your concerns. The round count is derived from the number of drills that are run throughout the course for each block of instruction. The numbers we use come from the average number of rounds that students have used in the past. 750 is a recommendation, more is better. If you can not, for whatever reason, acquire the recommended number of rounds, no problem. Less rounds means that you will have to be a bit conservative during the class. If availability is the issue, let us know and we can assist with that (Walmart has lots here for $40 per 100). As far as the class price, that is fixed based upon our prices for Law Enforcement. It would be a dishonor to the LE community to offer similar training to them for a higher price; their budgets are dimishing as well. If there are any other concerns you have, please let me know and I will see how we can help out.

    Hope to see you there!
    Stay Safe...
