A friend of mine, his father works in the fly fishing section of Bass Pro, they both use to own the Alpine Angler in Aurora, both very knowledgeable when it comes to fly fishing. Wouldn't hesitate to take advice from him.

His name is Bill. I would talk to him for sure.

On the other hand. If you have a choice. I really feel it's a good idea to support the little guy when it comes to fly fishing gear. Of course I just bought bullets at Wal-mart. So maybe I'm a huge hypocrite.

The last place I will buy fishing/hunting equipment is a big box store. Is it really worth saving a couple of bucks?

Orvis had a good "how to" book. I think I still have an old copy.

I really need to get on the river.

I agree on supporting the small shops, however we were more less referring him to a good guy that knows what he's doing, and will give good advice. I'm quite certain Bill would give you all the advice you could want, and not even expect you to buy anything. After all, he was a small shop owner at one time.

OMG! How many of you know Bill? I used to live at Alpine Anglers... Worked his booth at the fly fishing expo one year, and represented his shop at a fly tying expo once too. Damn shame what happened to his shop after all the big time stores moved in around there.

Go to Bass Pro and talk to Bill. He will point you to what you need for gear and what flies work. Tell him that Sean said you want the following flies and make him explain a CO nymphing rig to you:

Greg's Emerger (gray and black, and olive if fishing the Big Tom, size 20)
    Red Analid (size 18)
San Juan Worm (size 16, and not the crappy ones, he'll know...)
RS2 (Gray, sulpher and black too if they have them, size 20)
Chartruse Copper Johns (if fishing the Taylor)

    Top water flies:
P.O.S.'s (size 18 and 20, but good luck finding these, ask bill anyway)
Parachute Adams (size 18 and 20)
Maybe a blue dun mayfly type fly if they have some of those, but I would stick to the Adams'.

Then ask Bill if he has any of the local Guide's flies in the store. Those are golden. The first four flies, BTW, are about all you need. The rest is simply learning how to nymph fish.

Those forecept thingies are called hemostats.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Anyone that thinks war is good is ignorant. Anyone that thinks war isn't needed is stupid.
