Let me start by introducing myself; I am a US Air Force Firearms Instructor, Eagle Scout, and the Son of the Scoutmaster for Troop 101 and the Older Brother of the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 101. I have viewed this forum many times but until today never signed up; I felt it was time in order to say thank you to everyone that helped the troop yesterday.
Claimbuster, thank you so much for helping to spread the word and for your very generous donation to the troop; when I spoke with my Father (Doug Jones) last night he specifically mentioned your gift; he along with every boy in that troop have been moved beyond words at the generosity of the community.
Several scouts from around the area not affiliated with the troop came by and lent a helping hand, dropping their plans and picking up a sponge or shammy to help the troop out. All in all the troop cleared over $3,000 cash from the car wash and a ton of camping gear. Donations are still comming in with an additional $6,000-$7,000 being pledged to help the troop; more than enough to cover the expenses of what was taken.
Byte Stryke, I don't know if the line for the car wash was ever 5 miles long...but I do know the boys had about a 5 hour period in which they could not stop because of the line that was waiting. Very suprising in the way the community came together for this!!!
What's next? Well as I mentioned in my introduction I am an Eagle Scout and in my entire scouting carreer I have not seen a Scout Troop like this one. This troop strives to raise all the funds for everything they get or do including the boys personnal equipment, uniforms, cost of summer camps etc. not expecting the boys or their family to front the costs of any of their activities. Therefore with any funds left over they will add some money into each boys' personnal scout accounts to help them pay for activities, gear etc (with commitee oversight/approval). They will also donate excess gear to other scouts and troops that are in need, and have pledged to make monatary donations to local community organizations.
Again Thank you to everyone that was able to come by to help support Troop 101, these boys will remember forever how much people care and without your generous support many of these boys will now have the opportunity to continue in their scouting journey, a journey that will follow them for the rest of their lives, as mine has. On behalf of Doug Jones (Scoutmaster), Chad Jones (Senior Patrol Leader), and the boys and leaders of Troop 101, our hats are off to you. Thanks again.
