You must keep downtime in perspective. How long would a gunsmith have your pistol to park it or blue it? It took 3 weeks to get my rifle back from the 'smith from having some barrel work done to it.
Duracoat has a rock solid cure in 3-4 weeks. However, there is also Duraheat. It is ceramic based, and takes 5 days to fully air cure. It is limited in it's colors, though.
Cerakote is another great product, and harder than Duracoat. Probably a better choice for handguns that are going to ride in a holster a lot. It can be bought in air cure or oven cure. With oven cure, your down time would be considerably less. It is more expensive, but may be worth it to you.

The cerakote oven cure says bake for 2 hours. But how long after that could you holster and carry it?
I've not seen anything that showed that it wouldn't be completely cured after being in the oven. Of course, I'd wait till the weapon cooled before holstering a 250 degree pistol!
Edited to add: I haven't finished with Cerakote yet, but have been looking forward to trying it out. If I find further details, I can post them.
