Sure, and the Clinton "Assault Weapons Ban" was only a temporary Gun Control measure; no harm there either, right?

The point is that this AZ law is the RIGHT thing to do - both for the nation and (more importantly) for the people of AZ. ANY restrictions or delays only stand to strengthen the position of those who would strike it down completely and forever.

So far, sovereignty has been upheld in recent cases so I hope this will be as well.
Sadly, I think that you are right but this law needs no compromises. It's compromises that have gotten us into this position of borders without control. We need to gain positive control of traffic crossing our borders. Anything less will leave us at risk.

Without those parts the law is worthless, maybe its good for us in the end though. Maybe all the illegals that flocked to colorado after the press on this will now go the hell back!

It's now time for the State of Arizona to sue the Federal government for dereliction of duty and breach of public trust. If the Fed's want sole authority to enforce federal laws, then the Fed needs to ENFORCE FEDERAL LAWS.
I agree completely. The executive branch should not be able to pick and choose which laws will be enforced in a Republic...

I disagree, a friend was deported back to Canada because his paperwork ran out. Nevermind that he was in a coma for a month when it happened and was rather unable to deal with it, they still kicked his ass back to the land of Mounties and Molson. If you've started any paperwork or processes to start citizenship or be here legally, keep up on it. Once you're on the radar they will chuck you back over the fence just to make a point. He got back in, but it took weeks.

Hopefully they get in straightened out or they just tell all the officers to comply with the law as written and to fuck the feds. it is time for some states to step up. they need to protect themselves if the feds are failing at doing their job.

Wasn't there a federal case a few years ago where the decision is that the local LE was THE LAW over and above Federal? (WY case I believe)

Here's why I ask. If AZ choses to ignore the Federal court ruling and enforce their law as written, how would the Fed enforce their new restrictions?

Winning post. My only disagreement is with the feds "failing" at doing their job. They're not failing...they're refusing, IMHO.

AZ tells the feds and their judge to pack sand. The law goes into effect and officers enforce the law as written.

It's about time "We the People" stood up to the feds constantly overreaching their constitutional authority. When 70% of the people want this law and agree with this law only a tyrannical government would go against their will.

Like 70% of the people didn't want Obamacare, like 70% of the people didn't want the bailout... It's things like this that make me believe that civil war is in our future - or at least massive civil unrest. The government is giving the PEOPLE a big F*** YOU on pretty major decisions. Just look at Rangel, he is going to cut some sweetheart deal today to keep himself from being thrown out of office on "ethics violations". These "ethics violations" are actually illegal acts that EVERYONE knows now, and that he will never get prosecuted for.

So, to wiggle this back on topic, states are sovereign, they need to exercise that more often and stop letting the feds take a gigantic ostrich crap on our heads. This case will hopefully end up in the supreme court and hopefully the feds get bitch slapped for not enforcing their end of the bargain with the states. I see it all as a breach of contract in many ways and it should be treated as such.
