Default Fed Judge Blocks Part(s) of Arizona Law

Federal Judge Blocks Part of Arizona Immigration Law

Federal judge blocks key part of Arizona immigration law

"...partial injunction requested by the federal government on the controversial Arizona immigration law, SB 1070.

"Susan Bolton has blocked the portion of the law that requires police officers to determine the immigration status of a person detained or arrested.

...and the provision that makes it a crime for an illegal immigrant to seek or perform work.

In all, Bolton struck down four sections of the law, the ones that opponents called the most controversial parts."

I'm not surprised and I think it's the right thing to do. You can't have a law going into effect while it's being battled. I hope that it passes and sets a precedent for other states to do the same, but putting a temporary injunction on the hotly contested parts is smart.

Meanwhile I will encourage anyone I know who are in process of obtaining legal citizenship to drop their cases and spend the money somewhere else. Who cares, noone is going to enforce the fed law. And the Fed wont let anyone else enforce it!

IMHO, it's the liberals who don't want this passed. Those illegals support the free crap that THEY give out. If this passes then, God forbid, Americans will get back to work and we'll stop forking over trillions for free health care and citizenship for them.

If we don't get a handle on this soon people are going to start shooting cans - mexiCANS, south ameriCANS, afriCANS.

I disagree, a friend was deported back to Canada because his paperwork ran out. Nevermind that he was in a coma for a month when it happened and was rather unable to deal with it, they still kicked his ass back to the land of Mounties and Molson. If you've started any paperwork or processes to start citizenship or be here legally, keep up on it. Once you're on the radar they will chuck you back over the fence just to make a point. He got back in, but it took weeks.

I'm not saying that the feds are right, in fact I'm saying the opposite - but this is not a permanent injunction, it is preliminary pending the outcome of the case. I've been watching it closely and read the order a little while ago, it's nothing right now that anyone should get their panties in a wad over - YET. Since the law is set to take effect tomorrow, this move makes sense.

I think that parts of this law will be thrown out and parts left in - it's a compromise that will partially appease both sides of the argument, but then I think it will get to the supreme court and that's where it will get very interesting to see if states really are sovereign or if we are beholden to the feds. So far, sovereignty has been upheld in recent cases so I hope this will be as well.

Sure, and the Clinton "Assault Weapons Ban" was only a temporary Gun Control measure; no harm there either, right?

The point is that this AZ law is the RIGHT thing to do - both for the nation and (more importantly) for the people of AZ. ANY restrictions or delays only stand to strengthen the position of those who would strike it down completely and forever.

Sadly, I think that you are right but this law needs no compromises. It's compromises that have gotten us into this position of borders without control. We need to gain positive control of traffic crossing our borders. Anything less will leave us at risk.
