Don't know about scout but mine was/is a case of some asshole galavanting around with my SS# and name commiting crimes in states I've never been to. My CBI record looks like a mishmash of his info and mine.

They screwed it up. I could see the computer, everything entered was correct. We double verified when it came back rejected. Sent it a second time and it went through.

I guess the general consenus here is that there is a "file" at CBI on all of us and the information in that file is wrong.

I'm going to decline to tell you how I know, but I do know that belief is wrong. When a request comes through either electronically or via phone, the civilain staff then comb through all the databases they have available to them using the name, dob, SSN if provided and determine if there is information in those databases for that person. Problems pop up for those people who have a more common name and it requires more investigation. The 'John Smith' guy are really screwed!

Sometimes, that person is denied and urged to file an appeal, which then has a different section of CBI comparing fingerprint cards submitted with the appeal with those on the offender record to determine if they are the same person. If they are not, then the appeal goes forward and gets the approval by a supervisor.

Some have argued that they should look at the physical description information and see they aren't the big, little, fat, what have you on the description of the offender. They cannot do that as those items are subjective by the arresting officer and can differ greatly, depending on who is the one filling out the fingerprint card.

It isn't a perfect system and there is human error involved, just like in everything else. I'll give you some stats that I have access to for Insta-check.

    For 2009:
    Purchase approvals: 38,278
    Purchase denials: 1,043

    January through May 2010:
    Purchase approvals: 32,961
    Purchase denials: 969

2009 Criminal fingerprint cards processed 250,000 (rounded); civil (job related) fingerprint cards processed 87,000 (rounded).

    The employees stay busy!

    Just food for thought...

Not sure on that processing fee, that must have been to the dealer for their charges not CBI?

You'll have to find out from CBI what is going on. Could be just about anything anymore, outstanding parking tickets, child support, a child who got tickets in your car and you don't know about it.

Yeah, you generally don't have to pay when you pass. $20 for two tries isn't unreasonable.

How is it legal to deny your right to purchase a firearm because of an unpaid parking ticket?
