I really enjoy the time I have spent in texas. I haven't lived there but fly there quite a bit. DFW is freakin crazy. IAH isn't too terrible. the storms that brew down there are some massive beasts!
    definitely hot and humid.
hopefully the spanish language doesn't piss you off too bad, if so I would either get used to it or plan on being pissed a lot.
A lot of guys I fly with live there and own several houses they rent etc. from what they have told me property taxes are a little less or about even to having state tax here. but it also depends on where you live at in both areas...so basically I would say it is a wash.

I hope in a year or so we will all be invited to do some pig hunting! I have always dreamed of taking some texas hogs!

Thanks everybody. I appreciate the input. I've been to Texas a few times and I liked it OK, it's going to be a new experience living there. We haven't received the relocation offer in writing yet, so it's not a 100% certainty yet, but it's sure enough that I'm doing some research now.

Know what I'm looking forward to most?

NOT freezing my nuts off in the winter time....

Houston has had exactly 14 measurable snowfalls since 1939. I think I can deal with that!

I lived in Houston for 8 years within half a mile of the Compaq offices on 249 and Louetta which are now HP (Loved that part of Houston). All things being equal I loved my time down there and wish I could return to it. But that has more to do with being in my 20's and around all my friends down there. I am now in my 40's and am sure I would find things quite different. Shooting sports I was not involved with a great deal while down there as you must find a range to shoot at or get to know someone that will let you shoot on their private property. Everything down there is private property.

There are more restaurants per person in Houston than anywhere else in the United States.....So I was told once and I believe it.
