War is hell and the first casualty is the Truth.

Go back far enough in any countries history and they have done some pretty savage things. Pretty much any war on any continent during the evolution of the human race shows how nasty us humans can be to each other. America dropped one bomb then had to do it a second time to bring an end to the war.

I don't hate Japan and in fact I'm impressed with how rapidly they rebuilt their country. Looking at a map I can't fathom how tiny Japan took on China, that blows my mind.

But... being Obama with HIS history.. his motives are, IMHO, way too suspect. Why now? Why not now? Don't know and never will

As for my comment on mortars.. sorry, it's like saying I'm going to play in traffic. Lately it's almost like "5 o'clock Charlie" from MASH. Incoming rockets aren't that big of a deal anymore (until they get one in close) but I forget that saying something like that to those who haven't been here or, those who have been here when it was a lot worse, have a different meaning. Just nobody light any roman candles around me for awhile...

It was unconditional by accepting the Potsdam declaration. The emperor retained its power was directed by the Gen MacArthur despite the opposition from the new Japanese civilian authority.

Does the Japanese Government send a delegation to the Pearl Harbour memorial services?

Yes, both previous emperor and the current one had paid their respect. HOWEVER, the japanese attacked the US. Not the other way around. For them to expect apology is simply wrong-- and there is no apologies so far.

Japan owes apology to China, Korea, and other pacific Asian countries for starting WWII.
US only stopped Japan from senseless killings of other Asian countries.
They were as bad as what Nazi did to others.

Seeing as the alternative was a full invasion and they had their crazies giving out spears to everybody it was probably a good idea. They were estimating a million US casualties in an invasion and Japanese would have been pretty much wiped out.

I'm a little prejudiced here since my Dad was in MacArthur's army. He would have been in that invasion.

One unfortunate part of this was that the Japanese never really faced up to what they had done and younger Japanese don't know why other Asians hate them since they weren't taught that history. they are still denying Nanking. The Germans know their history since that was a real surrender.

Did any of the Japanese generals or other soldiers get brought up in international courts like their German counterparts?

Yes. Japanese war crimes trials went on from about 1946 - 1948. Several generals and others were executed including Hideki Tojo. The Russians conducted their own trials in Khaborovsk and the Chinese held trials and executed somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 accused of war crimes.
