Is this an appropriate thread to ask how realistic it would be to write up a bill, or amendment, or something that mandates that any crime committed by any elected official, WHILE IN OFFICE, carries a 1 year mandatory jail sentence? The minimum threshold would be set very low, like Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor. It wouldn't be cruel and unusual punishment because you would know ahead of time about the added risk of being an elected official. Don't like the potential risk, then don't take the job. Pretty much something stating that if you are an elected official, all sentences are far more strict, instead of the opposite that it is now.

Seems like your group of people could be the right kind of group to write and push something like that onto a ballot. I don't want to derail the thread, so if it goes that way, I'll have Marlin edit it up, or split it up into it's own discussion. Just thought you might know about how realistic that idea would be.

I don't know. I can ask someone at the next meeting, though. I like the idea.

There are already statutes that add aggravating factors to certain crimes when committed by certain people (ie: by a person in a position of trust). So it would be along those same lines.

"...17 Aug 2010 at the Knotty Pine in Bailey at 1000..."

I'm challenged by the time as well BG, generally can't do a mid-morning / mid-day meeting Mon - Wed's as I'm "down the hill" earning my keep. Thu & Fri (Fridays are real good) I have more flexibility unless I'm on-the-road but...those daytime hours are tough on those of us still required to particpate in the "productive class."

If nothing else I extend my "thanks" for taking up the cause on behalf of all of us up here.

I'm glad you didn't think it was dumb. I'm tired of politicians getting away with stuff that would have me in prison, and they're not even afraid of losing their job. It should be the other way around. Well, not that I should be able to get away with what politicians do, just that they should be held to a much higher standard than I am.

RE: the hours. We're going to vary the hours/days from one meeting to the next. Also, the next meeting will most likely be in the Conifer or Aspen Park area so it'll be closer to town. This time just happened to work out for most people this time around.

    ...at 10:00am.

It was a good meeting and we have lots of pro-2A items on the upcoming agenda. You're welcome - and encouraged - to attend.
