New Tea Party Group

I attended my first meeting of the new 285 Corridor Tea Party (https://sites.google.com/site/285corridorteapartygroup/) last night. Actually, it was my first ever Tea Party meeting.

I was very impressed with the level of committment of the other attendees, many first-timers as well.

Somehow, I found myself in the position of chairman of the 2nd Amendment Committee for the group. It consists of some pretty dedicated gun-owners and patriots.

We're having our first committee meeting on 17 Aug 2010 at the Knotty Pine in Bailey at 1000. I know that's a long way outta the way for some of you but I wanted to extend an invite to any CO-AR15.com members who'd like to attend.

The focus of the 285 Tea Party is ACTION...not just meetings where we complain about the state of the country and politics and such. The group is led by some pretty capable people and they stressed how important ACTION is.

We actually had 3 candidates for Park County political office in attendence last night. One of whom was Michael Graves, candidate for Park County Sheriff. One of the attendees asked Mike what his position on the 2A, Oath Keepers, Militias, etc... would be as sheriff. Mike issued a pretty strong response...positive, of course...to the question and stated he was in no way going to stand by while the government allowed a dismantling of the 2A or any other lawful activitiy by the people. He further stated that no outside threat to the constitutional rights of the people of Park County would go unchallenged by his Sheriff's Dept. It was pretty refreshing stuff.

So, you're all invited to attend our first meeting. The Knotty Pine is right on the main drag (US Hwy 285) in downtown Bailey.

They serve OUTSTANDING soft-serve ice cream and FANTASTIC coffee. As a matter of fact, I'll buy coffee for any CO-AR15.com members that show up! It's a long time locally owned business and Barb, the owner, is a gun-owner herself. She sells ammo, too!

It would be great to see some of you there. I'll be the dumbass trying to "Forest Gump" his way through running a meeting and keeping it on track.

What are the immediate goals, in what kind of time line, of the group?

From the 285 Corridor Tea Party website:

The 285 Tea Party Group was formed to accomodate patriots along the Highway 285 corridor. We welcome all conservative minded voters who believe that government should be reduced to the lowest practical level, that government should practice fiscal responsibility, that we need to protect the rights of our citizens, that we uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States of America and that we demand that our elected officials serve and obey the voters who put them in office.

The group has formed several committees to put the above into action and break it down into a manageable level.

The 2A Committee's goal will be to ensure the 2A is upheld and respected by all candidates for public office. The first meeting on the 17th will focus primarily on developing our mission statement and how we can put our goals into action at all levels of government.

The timeline will range from ASAP (the current election cycle) to ongoing (future election cycles and on an ongoing basis between elections).
