    Default AR15 for 7.62x39

Does anyone make an AR upper for 7.62x39 or is it just a better idea to have an AK/SKS and an AR-15 seperate... I was just thinking about plinking ammo and 7.62x39 seems to be cheaper, et al and etc.

    Build an ak

Actually I've seen 7.62x39 uppers can't remeber who sells em though google or check shotgun news ads. Also for cheap plinking maybe look into a 5.45x39 upper, even cheaper than 7.62 soviet ammo wise and I've seen uppers for sale in that nice russian chambering as well, hope that helps

    Default Several people

    Del-Ton, Olympic, Bushmaster, YHM, DPMS

    Midway lists Olympic and Bushmaster.

Those are only the people I had in my favorites list from when I looked a couple weeks ago.

I guess the better question I'm trying unsucessfully to ask is:

Should one get both an AK and an AR or just get multiple caliber uppers for the AR platform?

or... who really cares, get what you want, etc, et al.

    Default dollars and cents wise...

"I was just thinking about plinking ammo and 7.62x39 seems to be cheaper, et al and etc."

The 7.62 x 39 uppers aren't cheap. You could probably get an AK for less than what you would pay for an upper.

I'm not good when it comes to that type of math. I usually spend the money and then justify it afterwords.

    Anyway- Have Fun.

If You want to shoot cheap as much as I hate to say it go Ak. cheap 7.62 = ball powder, Laquered cases, corosive primers, and so on = Ar-15 No worky. = very expensive club.

is the objective to get something to come out of the end of the barrel, or to be able to actually hit something. if the former, then ak. if the latter, then ar.

oh, you'll hit something! It's choosing what you're going to hit that's the tricky part

and inside of 100 yards, either will get the job done just fine- if you like 7.62x39 ballistics, and will use domestic ammo (or reload for accuracy), then an AR will be more accurate- but shooting cheap ammo will make the AR a club much sooner than an AK.. and you'll lose much of the difference in accuracy.. I agree you can generally get a cheap AK or SKS for less than an AR upper-

the con is you've now got another rifle to haul around- the pro is, you've now got another rifle in case something happens to the AR... I lulled the same question over, and came to the conclusion that AKs come in configurations that are just not possible for the AR (folding stocks, pistols without a pipe coming out the back, etc), so try those out to see if they're to your liking...
