Default Are You Ready to 'Bug Out' and Why

I often read about people talking about SHTF and bugging out on here, and I am one of those people, but our reasons might be different. I'm interested to find out who is ready to bug out and what they think the most likely reason would be to have to.

I have some basics put together but haven't really had the money to put together something I would feel secure bugging OUT with... plus, I seriously doubt my car could handle a bug OUT. That being said, I do have a friends house that I'd be able to get to to bug IN. lol. And if need be, could survive in the apartment for a while.

Biggest problem I "feel" is civil unrest. People just ain't happy.

If the need would arise to Bug I think we would sit tight at least for a couple of days. If SHTF the roads would be a mess and the thugs would be in full predatory mode. Why not let things settle a bit and see what pans out. Short of a total collapse of society I think any unrest would fade quickly and things would settle down.
Pure amateur hour for the first day or two and the enforcing powers would be out in full force looking for Cammie wearing and gun toting "survivalist" and "militia" types.

I've been in the surviving mindset for awhile and have built up a pretty good everything supply. Food, water, cooking, heat options, defense, etc. My opinion is bugging out is the last option because I'd be restricted to what I could take. If I had to leave I'd hook up with some like minded friends and combine assets. I don't know if I'll live to see it but I feel that sooner or later there will be civil unrest in this country on a scale we haven't seen before. Meanwhile the cartoon channel is the only thing that makes sense anymore.

I feel it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Like some of you, I plan on staying put for as long as possible if SHTF, but am prepared to leave in a hurry if needed. I'm stocked for at least 6 months of everything I need, but have several exit strategies and "bug out locations" if I had to go to that extreme. I don't think it hurts to be prepared. My poor fiance has to do practice "bug outs" with me once a year to make sure we have everything we need in an emergency .

Just started working on extra food and water supply. We've got maybe a week or two worth of food and water. After that I don't know what we'd do. Mostly bug in.

I have the plan, the place, the gear and the bags.

Scariest thing is if you sit and watch the news while considering this.
    • The U.S. is ONE of the oldest systems of Government and nothing lasts forever.(I know there are older systems, debate argue etc..)
    • People are smart, Mobs are stupid
    • Money means Nothing, Gold means less, force means everything.
    • The instinct to survive will make people do things they normally wouldn't do.
I keep all of these things in mind while doing anything.

I have potential places, that we'd have to share with 45 other family members. :/

Like the others, I do not feel the need to leave. I am out in the sticks. Pretty well prepared for most anything.
