Default American Militias - A British Perspective

Pretty interesting piece and fairly even handed...especially for being written by a Brit.

    Read it HERE.

Interesting read, but that Cochran is a kook.

The guy is definitely a kook...no doubt about it. But the piece was well written and fair. In my opinion, the author never indicated he felt the militia members depicted were representative of the average gun owner in America. And I don't think that was the point of the story at all.

And I thought that was a pretty positive aspect of the piece.

A part in the piece talks about militias being ready for the post apocalyptic scenario...I kind of have a sinking feeling that this guy and his ilk are the ones that will be raiding towns for supplies just b/c they can.

ghandi was a champion of passive agressive. he got shot to death.

taking a punch and letting the other guy get demonized doesn't work when the other guy is the government.

which is why we have the second amendment.

guess what'll happen if someone tries to do this

India is a gigantic shithole with a backwards culture.

I also find it ironically funny that it pisses you off because I refuse to be passive aggressive.

Don't vent your annoyance at a militia goomba in some article at me. You're exasperating yourself with hypotheticals.

I'm not in a militia and I'm not defending their point of view.

What I'm saying is very simple and straightfoward: if some guys (hypothetically) from the california highway patrol show up and want to take away my firearms and remove me from my home, I will not allow it.

    Why?

I agree with the militia dude on a few counts based on -

The 2nd amendment- it protects all of the constitution and it's amendments.

As far as the health care issue and his take on it, if a US citizen refuses to participate in the gov't imposed program which the citizen must pay for involuntarily, and then is fined by the feds, this is a blatant violation of the 6th amendment of the constitution which states '

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."

The article is slanted big time, with an intent to show just how dangerous armed americans are and to further uphold the firearms confiscations and controls imposed upon the british public.

There's not really any groundswell of opinion in the UK to repeal the current firearms laws that needs to be kept under control, to be honest. Most Britons have no interest in owning firearms for hunting, self defense or overthrowing the government. People who would like to see the laws moving further towards ours are so small in number that they can effectively be ignored rather than attacked via the media. Anyone who owns a firearm in the UK who isn't a farmer or gamekeeper is essentially looked on as a bit of a weirdo by anyone who knows that he owns them.

I wouldn't say that the article is slanted 'big time,' but it's definitely intended at least in part to confirm the prejudice that the rest of the world holds about Americans and guns. But would you want to read an article about how British dentistry is just as advanced as American dentistry and most people in the UK have perfectly healthy teeth?
