    Default Malfunction Drills?

Went out shooting my G19 today. Practiced drawing from my IWB Holster and even loaded random spent casings in my mag to practice clearing jams like I've seen you guys talk about. Not too Shabby! I was wondering if anyones got any other good drills to practice like that for CCW?

I went to a 5 day GLOCK 19 course and for malfunctions we had some .40SW dummy rounds that had plastic bullets. We would load several backward in the magazine to simulate a malfunction during a string. Most of the time a TAP, RACK and SHOOT would work but every 3 or 4 times you would have to remove the magazine, clear and insert a new magazine. It was a great drill and since we had to do this during all of our timed courses while shooting from cover it became second nature.

I used to use snap caps when I went to the indoor range, but it has been years since I've gone there. I have a hard time finding my brass where I shoot outside, so I haven't used them. I need to get a tarp. Sure would make clean up easier.

Well if you can't afford a class, then you could at least grab the MagPul Dynamics Art of the dynamic handgun DVD's and draw from that. It's a great training aid, though nothing really replaces a training class.

There are video clips on YouTube as well. Though you should use your own judgment for the actual value of materials found on YouTube. Here's the results of a simple search:

Glad to see folks are drilling these types of issues. My training this weekend was simply sitting on the couch and working on presenting and sight picture, then a dry fire while watching a zombie movie ... bring injured sucks

I agree, the Magpul DVD is a great reference material, but is by no means substitute for instruction or a taking a class. When my buds and I go out, we always run malfunction drills, the most common being the failure to feed (tap rack bang), failure to eject/stovepipe (either clear it ala Magpul or tap rack bang depending on your school of thought), failure to fire (tap rack bang) and double feed, which takes the above mentioned remedy.

Then there's the drill for failure to extract:

Drop, rack, rack, rack.....cuss....throw weapon at attacker

Note: Use borrowed gun for this drill.

Then don't forget the one handed malfunction drills! Those are fun!
