Default Decent BUDGET 30-06..... Any Ideas???

I am in the market for a good, 30-06 rifle and am also on a budget. I am not looking to spend much over $500. I have found a few used ones, but either they are in bad shape or are very basic. I know that is what Im going to get for the money. I guess the real question is, are Savage Arms rifles any good. Are they reliable, do they shoot straight and are they overall a decent gun for the money. I am looking at a new one for $500 or less with a scope. Nothing fancy, but Im not an avid hunter either. I also looked and a 700 ADL in great shape, but everyone told me (even 2 gunsmiths) that $500 is too much. I need to pay around $400 for it. But, the guy wont budge, so I have to look elsewhere. Also, I have an almost new XDM 40 with extras if anyone is interested in a trade or partial trade and a little, I mean a little cash for a 30-06. If savage is the way to go, any ideas on which model? Are there any other makers out there that I havent hear about that I should look into? Thanks in advance guys.

Check into the Savage XL111 package. ( Not 100% sure on the letters. But the 111 is correct.)

Basicly a Savage 110 with a scope. Even though the scope isn't the greatest, it is adequate.

Check the Big 5 ad, I think they have a sale on them about every other week this time of year.

I had one in .300WM. Solidly built rifle.

Posted: Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:16 am Ad subject: Savage 110 30.06 and Remington 700 .270 Savage is wood stock/blued. Stock has a few very minor small surface scratches 92% condition. The metal work is almost perfect 98%. This rife comes with a new Simmons 3-9 X 50 scope cost $65. Price is only $299
The Remington 700 was sold, then the buyer backed out. It is a 700 in .270 in almost new condition, shot only a dozen or so rounds. Comes with a Tasco (Japan) 3-9 X 20 scope. $399 robandmandy1@netzero.com

Hell, I have a older Ruger M77 Mk II SS with older style composite stock topped with a Redfield 3-9x40 that I would sell you for $500, and give you the .5 MOA reloads I have for it. It's been hunted (scratches on stock and oxidization on the scope) and has about 500 rnds through it, but it shoots straight (have targets to prove it), and is super light to carry.

    Let me know. seanmyhre@rocketmail.com
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Default Which One Should I go With?????

I have narrowed it down to 3 rifles. They are all on sale and what I think is a good price.

    1. Savage Edge with Camo Stock, Scope, and Matte Finish Barrel in 30-06$379
    2. Remington 700 ADL Heavy Barrel Varmit with Camo Stock, Scope and Matte Finish Barrel in 308 $499
    3. Remington 700 ADL with Camo Stock, Scope and Matte Finish Barrel in 30-06 $450

All are new in box. Which is a better deal? I am looking for a good all around, mulit purpose rifle.

I am in the market for a basic, inexpensive big game rifle as well. All 3 you mentioned are on my list and I am also considering the Weatherby Vanguard which runs about $450 without scope. I'm curious to hear what you choose and how you like it.
