Yep, you can imagine these guy's going off a jump/ramp, getting towed or just heading into a good breeze.

Until someone (probably quite a few) got hurt and they went the way of dangerous fireworks, lawn darts and other fun things.

Pretty sure that picture was taken at Mellon LZ just outside the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada. Really cool place.

Those are probably the biggest flaps I've ever seen. I've had chance to see a lot of these roll off the line in Long Beach, as Jetblue use to do a ton of flying out of there. The one that alway looked out of place was that Qatari AF one. Looked rather flamboyant.

Questions to USAF guys out there, Is it as good as they say? What is the maintenance hr per flight hr?

They are a pretty cool plane now that all the bugs are worked out. No clue on cost per hour. Aint cheap I am sure...

In all honesty, pretty good bird now. Did an exercise down a Gulfport once. Since I flew in the exercise I rode home in one that was carrying a bunch of other equipment back to Pope. Friend of mine was the AC/Pilot so I sat jump seat. He put the inboards in reverse at altitude (outboards at idle) to do a pen descent. Pretty wicked descent rate! If still in the game I...screw that, I'd still fly a herk.
