Such a beautiful aircraft... it will stay being the backbone of USAF for decades.

I will get to see them every day when I'm in Texas. hopefully I can talk to the other instructors and maybe get a joy ride before I leave.

Great stuff as usual, sir! I caught them down in The Springs wednesday. Didn't have the airshow, but also didn't have the crowds and hideous parking hell either. Very relaxed and awesome!
There's a lot more of us ugly mf'ers out here than there are of you pretty people!

A few pics taken from the Yosemite fires a few miles from Half Dome. Cell phone pics instead of a regular camera. I wont make that mistake again.

We did some work in Oregon and Idaho before we were sent to the Rim Fire in Yosemite. MAFFS 3, 8 and 9 are holding down the fort while we get some down time. Its been non stop since early June.

I was slumming on MAFFS 5 instead of #2 like usual. 5 and I dont get along some days...

From a few miles away there was a lot of smoke in the air. A lot.

Up close it looked even worse.

During a drop we sometimes get close to the flames. Normally we work directly for the ground firefighters to put retardant exactly where they want it.

A pic of our shadow along a dozer line. 130-150 feet above the terrain.

MAFFS 9 reenforcing a dozer line around dusk. The two puffs of smoke are from the lead plane (King Air or OV-10) telling us exactly where to start and stop dropping.

    Tanker 10 (DC-10) getting busy.

Dropping right next to a dozer line and encampment.

And then along the side of a ridge.

    The gang from 5.

Great pics Hoser. I remember seeing those OV-10's on the line at Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks. I thought they'd be a blast to fly as a lead plane.
