Glock21, what's the best way to keep these snakies out of a house? I just spent some time yesterday trying to capture a Garder snake in my mom's house. They get under the shallow foundation walls and have made a pretty nice home for themselves in a crawlspace under the kitchen. Mom's a bit freaked out. I wasn't able to capture sneaky snake, he was pretty evasive with all his tunnels etc.

We've heard mothballs work pretty well and they did keep them out of some areas this summer. (before we knew they were actually living in the crawlspace)

Just tell your mom to suck it up and quit being afraid of most inane snake on the planet. Then tell her that it probably eats a bunch of yucky spiders and other gross bugs.

Pretty much what I told her. But I made an effort to capture the dang thing with no luck. He's still slithering around somewhere. Crawlspace was very bug/spider free though.

(what? The rest of you getting too slow to catch that one? It was ripe for the pickin' and I had to take the shot.)

Snakes in crawl spaces are not uncommon at all. If you have mice eventually you will have snakes, then the mice will migrate in the house and soon the snakes will follow. Reminds me of democrats? I am in probably 20 crawl spaces a week and see garder snakes, bull snakes, and even a rattle snake or 2. I have only killed one in a crawl space, if they leave me alone I let them live, but if they come in my house I have no mercey! But if they are outside my AO I let them do their job.

Yes, I was too slow to catch this one. 2.5 ft tall crawlspace, not much light, and the snake had lots of deep cracks and holes he could get in. I tried, but not really hard. Just dug up all his paths with a shovel and called it good.
