ok different question. if someone tried using an ar 15 buffer tube with an ar10 spring and buffer, what would happen? everyone says it doesn't work, you need to special short buffer, but im wondering what the actual issue is, i had a spare ar15 tube lying around so i tried it out and although i haven't fired it, the bolt charges back normal. thanks for the advice

From the AmaLite Website FAQs
10-4. QUESTION: Will an AR-15 (CAR) stock fit an AR-10?
ANSWER: Yes (with caveats). You will need to use either the carbine AR-15 carbine lower receiver extension (buffer tube) with an AR-10 spring and a shorter AR-10 buffer (to allow for the longer AR-10 bolt carrier group) or an AR-15 stock and the AR-10 buffer tube (but it will not collapse all the way). The A2 stocks are the same. The AR-10 rifle buffer is a little shorter in the AR-10 rifle.

If you go through the FAQs it might answer your other questions.
Hope this helps.

thanks i appreciate the help, but i actually did read that. i know everyone says it doesn't work, but im wondering as to why. when a round is fired and the mechanism is pushed into the buffer tube is the buffer going to hit the back of the buffer tube or what? i just want to know what the issue is before i go out and buy a $90 buffer as opposed to a $10 buffer.

Try $30.00 for the correct buffer...

sorry im using the carbine.
ar15 carbine buffer tube, dpms 308 buffer, dpms 308 buffer spring.
i read that thread. believe me ive read a million threads on the topic. i was hoping someone here would know first hand because none of what i read gives a PRECISE reasoning, or if its at all possible for it to work.

A few facts to help you if (maybe)
From what is in my hands (or Safe)-
A new Armalite AR10 adjustable carbine buffer weights 2.8 ounces and is 3.24 inches long. The ArmaLite Adjustable carbine stock is 7 3/4 inches deep inside (where the buffer spring rides)
DSA AR15 standard weight carbine buffer weights 2.8 ounces and measures 3.26 inches long. The stock it came in is a shorty stock only 7 inches deep inside.
I have two Tapco adjustable carbine stocks. They measure 6 13/16 and 6 5/8 inches deep. The buffers with them weight 2.8 ounces and I don't have a length.
The AR10 and Tapco stock tubes are all 7 7/8 inches over all length on the outside.
I don't have any way of measuring the spring tenison weights.
It kinda looks to me the buffers are the same for the AR10 and AR15.
Good luck.
