I'm so sick and tired of the NRA and their self serving crap. The Disclosure Act really pissed me off. The only reason I retain a membership is because there are several ranges and matches that require it, which is bull shit but that's besides the point. The NRA lobbies to keep themselves in business. In Arizona when the legislature passed the law that allowed carry in places that served alcohol (you couldn't even carry at TGIFriday's or Chili's before) the NRA stepped in and amended the bill to say that only CCW permit holders could do so. Before it was everybody, it would have allowed OC, and there was overwhelming support for it to pass. But the NRA stepped in and changed all of that.

Once again, the NRA has taken gun owners’ money — and more importantly, their trust — and used it to support those who have a horrible record when it comes to gun rights. And what’s more is that they have done it to fund the opposition of someone who is 100% pro-gun.
Capitol Hill insiders report the NRA will soon announce their support of incumbent Betsy Markey (D, CO-4), a politician who has never returned the NRA’s own candidate survey on gun rights, over Cory Gardner (R), a man who returned NAGR’s candidate survey 100% for the same subject. He is committed to protecting the individual citizen’s right to keep and bear arms — in addition to being a strong, conservative candidate on all grounds — yet the NRA chose to fund his opposition.

Markey voted for the NRA-friendly DISCLOSE Act, which exempts large non-profits like the NRA from disclosing their donors, pending the organization’s completion of certain criteria that, in this version, favored large national groups like the NRA. Garnering only 219 votes to pass, Markey’s vote was consequential to the success of the DISCLOSE Act.
Gardner has supported measures like “Make My Day Better”–an extension of “Make My Day” coverage to business owners and employees that currently enables a homeowner to use deadly force without fear of prosecution. The measure failed twice, however, due to opposition in a Democrat-controlled state legislature.
Gardner was endorsed by the National Association for Gun Rights last week.

This news follows closely on the heels of the NRA donating money to establishment politicians like Harry Reid (D-NV), while remaining completely silent on Senator Reid’s opponent, 100% pro-gun challenger Sharon Angle (R). Every day brings a clearer message of who the NRA is truly interested in representing — and it’s not individual gun owners.
Here at NAGR we believe in supporting candidates who are unwilling to compromise on the fundamental freedoms our country was founded upon. It is obvious that the NRA does not feel the same and is more concerned with sponsoring those who do favors for them on laws that are underhanded and subversive.
No one who follows this site should be shocked by this. However, it needs to be repeated; most gun owners still cling to the notion that the NRA fights for their rights to protect Constitutional freedoms. The evidence, on the other hand, is mounting to the contrary.

Hey ... I was just disagreeing with you over on the paypal thread and I got fired up, started thinking about the latest crap out of the NRA. I agree with you on this deal.
First,the NRA cozies up to Harry Reid, then gets on the Disclose Act's preferred list and now this: endorsing John Salazar and Betsy Markey.
This is just the latest in a long string of questionable actions (or lack of actions on the part of the NRA). I have been a member of the NRA for 20+ years and have given a fair amount of coin to them, in spite of their stupid mistakes. However, this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. NRA members need to voice their concerns to the leadership.
These guys are as bad as the Republican "good 'ol boys" that are fighting against the Tea Partiers. They're all too worried about losing power and control. Especially, the morons (can you say Scott McGinnis, can you say Dick Wadhams) running the Republican party in Colorado. They don't seem to give a damn about what we really need.
Maybe we need to give our money and support to a 3rd party and the Gun Owners of America!
Damn ... I feel better now. What comes after "newbie", anyway?

While I am certainly not a huge fan of the NRA, last month's American Rifleman magazine from the NRA had a pretty decent defense of their choices. Whether you agree with their reasoning is your choice. They pointed out again their basis for endorsements, which I have to admit I tend to forget when I criticize their choices: first, that they are strictly a one-issue organization focused on the 2nd amendment only. Therefore they don't give a hoot about what the candidates views are on any or all other issues. Since some candidates have far from conservative views on many other issues, that means we sometimes think they are endorsing anti-gun candidates when they are not. Second they don't necessarily agree with or work with other conservative organizations on issues, again because they are strictly a one-issue group. I looked around the NRA website a little, hoping to find the editorial from Chris Cox, but I couldn't. Here's a thread from June that the poster put a bunch of stuff on there about why they suck. It also has some former NRA board members etc talking about why they don't like the NRA anymore. There was an op-ed the other day from a former board member that I was emailed...I'm trying to dig it up.

Yes, I am also a member of the NRA, because of my firing range rules. I dislike the NRA in certain ways; but first I would like to tell you why the NRA supports Harry Reid over Sharon Angle.

Reid has always been a good pro gun supporter, and he has a good rating with the NRA. But if Reid loses the Senate race, and the Dem's still control the Senate, guess who would become the next Senate Majority Leader of the Senate? You guessed it, Senator Chuck Schumer [D] of New York, who is the most biggest anti-gunner on the Senate floor.

Besides, its beyond me why would anyone want to vote for that right wing kook, Sharon Angle. She's for removing Social Security, unemployment benefits, dismantling the EPA and the Health Care Plan.

My dislike of the NRA goes deep; because of their hidden agenda, while being pro-hunting they secretly throw all of their support to mining and drilling companys, who rape the land and put up "No Trespassing" posters so you can't hunt.

I welcome anybody to disagree or agree with my assertion.

Here's a question. If the democrats got up the gumption to seriously propose an anti-gun senate bill, do you think "Dingy" harry would oppose it?
Some observations: 1. Social security is a Ponzi scheme and it is becoming unsustainable. I am past 50, so hopefully I'll get something out of it. If I was in my 20's or 30's, I'd be advocating getting rid of it.
2. Unemployment benefits. Ok,these are reasonable, within limits. However, to use the liberals logic, do you think Sharron Angle could make that happen.
3. The EPA needs to be reigned in, again. They are currently out of control. Declaring Co2 (that's carbon dioxide) a dangerous pollutant. Give me a break.
4. "The health care plan"? You mean "Obamacare"? The convoluted mess that got rammed down America's throat, even though a majority strongly opposed it. Yea' ... get rid if it.
Nope ... I'd much rather have Sharron Angle than "Dingy" harry ( or Betsy Markey or John Salazar)

I keep my NRA membership out of requirement by range membership. But I'm also in GOA and RMGO.

I give my time to time contributions to the GOA.
